You know the ones that actually sit inside not like a fireplace. That have the door that you open and put the wood in and have the ashes pan up underneath where the wood goes in. And it has the bricks inside it where the wood goes to hold heat. We actually still have one of those and have not used it this year because we live in Mississippi and have been in New Mexico most of the winter. But we have one and have used it for the past six years every winter. For those that are cold natured you should get a wood heater. They are awesome. You don't have to worry about getting cold that is for sure. So, does anyone else have a wood heater. We have an old brown Ashley one. I love it. They are wonderful. So, do any of you have a wood heater?

Yes, we have a wood burner and love it. I haven't bought any wood for it because I cut my own and also pick up dead wood when walking the dogs in the morning.

We have oil fired central heating as well but there is nothing like a real fire to sit in front of on a cold night.

My brother has one of those in his house and he is definately not a fan because of the price of wood. Wood used to be so cheap but now the price (like the price of everything else) has skyrocketed. He actually gave up on buying cords of wood and goes out to the woods in back of his house that he owns and cuts his own wood. Believe me, this does not endear the concept of wood stoves to him any more considering the weather has been about twenty below zero here so going out and chopping wood is not a pleasant pasttime!!

We usually try to cut all of ours during the summer months and then we don't have to be out in the cold cutting wood so we can be warm!! We use to just cut it as we needed it and one winter we had no wood and went to cut wood and it starting sleeting and was like 20degrees. We almost turned into icicles. We kept the vehicle crunk and would cut a litle and jump in and warm up and then back at it again. Oh, I thought I was going to freeze that day. Our clothes had ices all over them when we got done cause we finally decided that jumping in and out of the truck was wasting time and that if we would hurry we could just stay in the vehicle to go home. We have also needed wood bad and cut trees of of our land. That was before we decided cutting in the summer is better. Buying wood is ridicolously expensive. I actually said one day that I wish I had about 100 acres of hardwood and I would cut it all and sell it cheaper than the others and then lots of folks would buy it from me!
We actually have a place that we have permission to go and cut firewood and can cut as much as we want. It is called the cave. We know the lady that owns it and she rents it out to this man who cuts trees for a living and we talked to him and he gave us permission to go and cut all we want. The man across the road from the place actually paid us to cut a cord for him. He gave us $60 a cord. A cord is a lot of wood when you are cutting but not a lot when you use it for heat.

I think my brother would like to do that, get his wood cut all in the summer but he works on a family farm and he does haying in the summer still so there isn't much time to go cut wood! So, he's stuck out there in the cold doing it. He does some extra in the fall but it never lasts long.
