Shouldn't every life be valued?  | |  So I was playing an MMO last night (massive mulitplayer online game) and there was a conversation that got way out of hand in my opinion. There was one person that was being rather rude and hatful toward another and at one point told them to "just do everyone here a favor and go kill yourself". Well I was floored. I made a comment about how completely wrong I thought that was because you never know the frame of mind someone else might be in. How do you know that your comment might not be enough to give them the last push they need to convince them to actually taek their own life. Well, the response I got was, "If someone is stupid enough to try to kill themselves, they don't deserve to live anyway." Is it just me, or does that seem like a total disreguard for human life? Doesn't everyone deserve a chance to get help and get better, or do you think people should just be given up on?

That devaluing of life is what allows slavery, physical, emotional abuse, murder, mass genocide.

| | | 3. donna22 (610) | 8 months ago |  I think there is a lot of ignorance regarding depression, suicide etc and some people just simply do not understand. When I was severely depressed I would tell people that I wnated to die and would kill myself. Part of this was a cry for help. Some people did their best to help and were sympathetic, some could not handle it and I lost friendships over it and some, well they arent worth bothering with. Now I understand I should not have said those things but at the time I was very ill and my mind was not working properly. It is in no way up to this person to decide if anyone deserves to live. Attempting suicide is not stupid (comments like his are)It is not a sensible thing to do either but as someone who has lost count of the overdoses they have taken, I know that you have to be in a extremely low mood to do anything like that. Thankfully I got help and something inside me knew that I would be ok (I still took a pretty big risk tho. I can not imagine what it would be like to be so low that you really DO want to die.

That person who said those ignorant things is really way out of line. It's insensitive people like that, that actually inflict alot of pain on people and help to cause a horrible society, which is why people despair so much and then go and kill themselves.
