Is the Archdiocese trying to destroy their own people?

Churches are being closed down due to the economy. But people are so true to their beliefs, they are willing to stand vigils to keep their church. On the ABC news site, it shows a video of people in New Orleans being taken out of the church in handcuffs. Some MA churches have no heat or running water, because the church heads want to force the people out of the church. Yet the parishioners are still staying, trying to worship. Why is the church acting like this? They should be cheering that their people believe in God so much, they are willing to fight for their church. Yet the Church is treating them like criminals, not true believers. Why do you think the church is doing this? I would think some of the fancier places could cut down on their expenses to try to help these determined people. But no, they have to go. Is the Church their own worst enemy? Are they destroying themselves far better than Satan ever could?

This seems a bit strange especially as the congregation still use the churches and give to the church funds. In England we have a system of using the church for worship but also for jumble sales, playschools, youth club.and all sorts of community activities, they all pay rent or donate to the church for its usage,it works really well and it has even in some places they run a tearoom ,local shop and post office to fund the church and stop it from shutting, worship is still possible and it is still the main reason for keeping the church open.It is probably going to be knocked dowm and houses built in its place it all boils down to money.I feel so sad for anyone in this position.

I'm not big on religion, but I have nothing but respect for these people. It takes a great deal of courage to do what they're doing. You would think they'd find a way to keep it open, one way or another. Just too sad.

Agreed. But it bothers me that the Church isn't congratulating these people for standing by their faith. I would think they could try to help them in some way. Maybe the church has to go, but help them in some other way. Not take them out in handcuffs.
