Do you know what ShoeGazing music is? Can someone please help me on this?

I have heard of this genre somewhere but I can't remember where exactly. I have visited wikipedia but all I got was several definitions and a list of bands. I want to know more about this genre because I heard it's one of the most underrated genres of music. What does it sound like? When did this start to become popular? If you have been listening to this kind of music, what are your opinions on this? Do you like it? Please help me expound on this topic by discussing everything you know about shoegaze.
