University Ranking: How do you think about it? | | Nowadays, it is popular to see in some of public media about the university ranking in the world. For example we can see the following website:
THES: www.topuniversities.com Shanghai Jiaotong: http://www.arwu.org/ Webometrics:: webometrics
I, personally, think that the webometrics is not very useful since the methodology is not quite relevant with the university performance in teaching and research. I believe for someone doing research like me prefer Shanghai Jiaotong ranking because the methodology used is based on research performance.
We observe that from the ranking in THES is quite bias towards English-based universities to dominate in the higher ranks. But does it reflect the reality? I can't believe that the university in Australia is doing much better than the university in Germany.
What do you think about this, Guys? How should we perceive this kind of ranking? Some persons still believe that someone from a "better" university has probably a better access to jobs, positions, etc.

Or one teacher is better than another as far as that goes? I guess it is the grades that people come out of the class with, but that can easily be adjusted. Or maybe by the job one gets when he gets out of school.
I know one of my best teacher's that I ever had was in a little tech school, which is now a community college, in Eastern Kentucky. I don't know how the school was ranked, but he was ranked high. I think it is because he had such a personality and ability to work well and one on one with each of his students.

But seriously, people who came from better universities do have better opportunities. Not only because of the logo on their diploma but also because they received better training based on the standards expected by the industry:)
Thanks for the response on my discussion! Good day! http://thingswelovetohate.blogspot.com http://canihascheeseburger.blogspot.com
