Gladiator may had a happy ending???

I thought the ending of Gladiator was perfect. It was obvious that the princess had feelings for him. And everyone usually expects the man and woman to hook up with each other at the end or if not before the movie ends. In this case, Russle Crowe's family was murdered, and he really didn't have much of a will to live. He had some motivation to live long enough when he found out that the man who killed his wife and son was ruling the country. That was one of the better endings I have ever seen, with him joining his wife and son at the end. It can't always be the man or the woman that falls in love with another person all the time. I think if they did it that way, many people would have expected it to happen. But it was better that he died at the end. Russel Crowe had a crushed soul throughout the whol movie. It's sort of like Mel Gibson in Brave Heart if you've ever seen it. His wife was murdered, and he died at the end. Pretty much the same story.

I think it was a good ending and fits the story and Russell Crowe's character Gen. Maximus. He was loyal to his wife and family and never yielded to the princess even though he knew that she had some feelings for him and all the opportunities surrounding him, even the chance to become the ruler of Rome as per request of the dying king. Maximus is a man of principle and just does what's right. He never thought of himself first.

It would be a flaw in the storyline if he went with the princess together. Though she was a morally sound woman, Maximus has a wife and a kid who were one of the reasons Maximus was fighting for. I don't think it would be nice for him to fight for his loved ones and settle with another woman in the end. It is kinda ironic and pointless.

very good movie

I just love the whole gladiator story, I wouldn't want to change any part of it, specially the ending.
