Mom can't see well

My mother had lasik surgery a month or two ago and she sees clearly but not in complete focus. She doesn't see well enough to operate her answering machine so she ends up erasing the incoming messages instead of listening to them... then she gets upset and blames it on the machine. She also can't read so she uses a magnifying glass. I suggested reading glasses, but she thinks if she does eye exercises she read about, she can strengthen her eyes to the point where she won't need glasses at all. Meanwhile, she's convinced that glasses ruined her eyes in the first place and I'm trying to find a way to get her to wear at least reading glasses. I'm not sure what, if anything, I can do to change her mind.
