Overuse of eyes, esp. for watching tv is harmful for eyesight. When you have kids at home, they will follow your example, and hurt to eyes will result in near-sightedness, a nuisance for their life. So better set a rule for the family, a designted time period for watching tv. Recommended time is 20 to 30 minutes for 2 - 3 yr old kids, no more than 1 hr for 3 - 6 yr old kids. And 1.5 to 2 m distance from the tv set. After watching, clean the face and do eye excercises.
In vacations when kids have plenty of time, reasonably arrange activities well combining study, games, and sports.
Parents must set a good example in watching tv.

I don't watch much TV at all only the news. I am manly on the computer which I am sure is harmful to your eyes as well. My children are more interested in reading then watch TV so that's good.

That's really good. By the way, how do you manage to have the children fond of reading, which is rarely the case nowadays. I am interested to learn, for the sake of my grandson, who is only 6 though. Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.
