He Is The Man....  email this discussion to a friend?

After much have been written about the lack of responsibility in people especially those in the civil service and medical professional, I just wondered if we are going to be heading for a disastrous road. I thought that this would be a depressing road ahead.

However, after reading this article, I am just so relieved and happy that there is still some civility and committed individuals out there. The article actually relates how this NHS Radiographer, Peter Cartwright took eight-and-a-half hours to go from Ashford in Kent to Guy's Hospital in south London as the snow caused transport chaos.

He got a train for part of the 54-mile journey, cadged two lifts and when all else failed, trudged on foot.

I further quote: "He caught a train from Ashford to Maidstone and then made his way along the A20 on foot to Borough Green. There he got a lift in a car to Swanley.

He then walked to Eltham, south-east London where he was given another lift to Rotherhithe.

He then walked to Bermondsey and jumped on one of the few trains on the Jubilee line to London Bridge, before finally arriving at the hospital at 2pm.

The journey normally takes him about an hour and a half.

Mr Cartwright, who has worked at Guy’s for 20 years, said the long journey in was worth it, adding: 'I like walking, I was warm and had food on me, so I was fine.

'I also didn’t want to let anyone down. It’s a wonderful place to work and I thoroughly enjoy it.

'Staff were sparse on Monday and I knew that if I didn’t make it in there would be extra workload for my colleagues.'

His wife, Tina, paid tribute to her dedicated husband. She said: 'He didn’t want to risk the weather conditions again so actually stayed there so he could be on time and do his job.'

What a man?
