[Debate] Homework is injurious to health Ban Homework!

I am FOR the motion to rid homework.

When I was younger, I rarely had homework and if my teachers assigned it, it took less than 30 minutes, even in highschool.

I would love to see something done for the homework that my son brings home a night. He's in the first grade and it's a rediculous amount. There are nights it will take him 2 hours to complete everything that he's required for nightly homework. He's write his 15 spelling words, and his spelling sentence... sometimes only two times each, other times it's as much at 10 times each. He's to read a 25 page story, write out the answers to the questions at the end of the story. He has a math page, and usually at Language page. On top of all that, he's got to study his reading words he'll be tested over on Thursdays of each week, and he's got 10 of those words.... And we just recieved a letter Monday of last week, they will be doing word definitions, which he will have to write the word and the correct definition of each word.

I have a good background in elementary education,and I have voiced my opinion on his homework nightly. and I also, know that the National Education Association endorses a guildline that states 10 minutes of homework per grade level... A first grader should have no more than 10 minutes of homework a night, 20 minutes for a second grader and 30 for a third grader... so why don't more teachers follow these recommendations and guildlines?

I am for getting rid of homework.

There have been studies completed that have determined homework is quite useless. Homework is like busy work. Teachers that teach really have no reason for giving homework. Their conclusion? Well, we were taught that we should give homework, so we assign it.

I think reading and what not is OK. Maybe doing a worksheet or something at home to help them understand and complete problems. However, hours and hours and hours of homework? What does that accomplish really? It just stresses people out and really doesn't help anyone in the long run.

Well i do think that there should be no home work.. Its realt not good that in home he do the work of school.. like write and wirte.. This realt Waste nothind gonna happen from this type of work.. Teacher should understand that.. and try ti give knowlesdge more and more to student in school only.. May times i beaten up bt the teaches because i never complete my home work.. Its realy a very very bad thing..
