Medicine For Leukemia,? | | I visited my friend's child last Monday. He is five years old, little boy with strong spirit and nice smile must stay at hospital to cure his Leukemia disease. Leukemia is one of blood cancer. He must pass some radiation therapy (kemotheraphy) to kill the cancer as well as his hair and skin part. This therapy is expensive and darken his skin and falls his hair.
His mom told me that his son will do this therapy forever. She said, there's one way to cure him by bone marrow transplant but this way is very expensive. It almost 500 thousands ringgit or almost hundred thousands dollar.
Is there any one of you who has the same story? tell me if there's cheaper way to recover this illness.

One lady in that drama suffers from leukimia too. And what I understand is that in medical science, the only way so far known to cure leukimia is by having a bone marrow transplant. The bone marrow of the donor must match with the recipient.
I have one niece that has similar problem and sadly he died because of that. I hope and pray that your friend's child will be having a better treatment and being healthy as soon as possible.

To undergo chemotheraphy at such a young age is really very hard, and yes, as you says, besides killing the cancer cells, the boy may also have other side effects such as hair loss, vomitting symptoms, no appetite, high fever, low immunity & thus higher chances of infection etc. So, it's really admirable that the boy is thinking positively. However, from what I know, they need not do the treatment forever. It's usually for a period of 6 months to 1 year, and the boy may have to undergo around 5 chemotheraphy sessions (depending on the type of leukemia and which category he falls under).
Has the parents or siblings tested if their bone marrow is suitable for the transplant? Transplant is certainly more expensive and also carries a certain risk as well. I do hope that the boy is coping well with his leukemia. I will pray for him...
