I can't imagine it. I have a friend that I met in college that happens to be a female. We hit it off right away and it was a close enough friendship that we canb actually say we love each other. But we're not in love. Well, There was a point for a very short time that I fell in love with her and was actually struggling with whether or not I should tell her. I didn't and am glad because as I look back on it now, if for what ever reason that relationship would have broken up, the loss of that friendship would have been horrible.

I had to re-read your headline. Are you talking about former lovers can't be friends. If so, then I would say that's a fair assertion. But if you you're talking about current lovers, no. I think the best relationship is one that you can be both. You know how many times I've heard someone who lost a spouse say he was my lover, my friend, my companion... And I'm sure there are a lot of relationships that have broke up where trhey have still been able to be friends. I just think that's a little harder.

It's possible that friends can be lovers but it's true that lovers can't be friends because its a hard decision to make after all. How can the two of you be friends when you both know that you shared good and bad memories as lovers. There would be jelousy, guilt and discomfort so better not to be friends but to be civil with each other that's it no question asked.
