| | i used to study french, too. then, i was already capable of expressing myself enough in spanish. i have found though that, if we learn a language just for the sake of it, there is no use pursuing it. it will just be good as totally forgotten after some years because, it is not put to use. that was what has happened to this skill which i had laboured on so much. these days, learning a new language will be much easier. it will be easy to tune in to programs and shows in the net which are presented in the language that you are currently learning to be adept at in both its spoken and written forms. also, there are tutorials which you can avail of through the internet, also. so, just go ahead pursue your interest, mjanne. good luck in this undertaking of yours. | | | | | | |

| | I am from Canada, so I have taken French since the 4the grade! I even went to france for a month between 10th and 11th grade. In grade 11 my French teacher considered me fluent. But, I did go to Mexico on exchange in 1992, and learned Spanish in about 3 months (well, it was 3 months before I could have a half decent conversation with someone), and I speak fluently to this day. My French sure took a hit, but I can still perfectly understand and most of the time convey what I am trying to say. I would like to learn Italian and cover the latin languages. My grandfather was a polyglot who spoke 5 languages and my Grandmother could sepak a couple as well. Guess I got it from them! | | | |

| | Foreign languages for me aren't that hard. I took 2 years of French in middle school and got a B in both of them, and then I got a really mean French teacher in High School teacher, so I quit and then took that year off from learning a language. Then in my sophomore year I took German and I loved it. I got an A all year round, and now I'm in my second year and I'm continuing to get all A's. The only thing that you have to do is to make sure you pay attention in class and you will be fine, and keep doing your homework. I haven't tried learning a language on my own yet though, but once high school is over, I think I am going to try to learn Japanese. Have fun learning new languages, ways of life, and enjoy mylot! | | | | | | |

| | Hello mjanne! My elder brother has taken language courses in French and Spanish and he cleared both of them with flying coulours, even though he was not too sound at school academically. Yes, Japanese and Chinese are considered to be the toughest languages to learn and you really have to work hard in order to learn them. However, French should not be too difficult. My brother went to the French classes organised by the French Embassy here in Delhi and he was advised to converse with his classmates in the same language and they used to show him some French t.v. shows/movies on French channels, like TV5, etc. Wishing you all the luck and success :) | | | | | | |

| | I think the hardest part of learning foreign language are grammar and writing part. especially if they hv special character like japanese, chinese or rusian, or arabic letter.hehehe. I've once learn how to write in chinese. hahaa I can resist only for 2 month. It's so difficult. I think if we just learn how to speak, it's not too difficult to learn. The most important is how much words u able to remember. it's all about vocabulary. | | | | | | |

| | i all agree with you. in my opinion, the most important and difficult is just the vocabulary! it troubles me so much. the oral language can be improved by practicing, but if you want to really manage a language ,you have to know the history, the culture, the accustomed usage. these only can be accumulated from the time. | | | |

| | learning languages isn't that hard for me and i also have a great ear too!which helps....a lot!I'm portuguese so i can speak it normally, but all the english i know is from watching cartoons.A normal portuguese kid would only learn english at 6 years old of age, when he entered our 1st grade. But me at that time i knew how to count to 10 and speak short basic senteces like "how are you","what's this colour" and what not.I learn basic french at school, but i probably suck at it now, because i finished my french 3 years ago,so since then i haven't spoken any french.I do understand it,but it must be rusty as hell.I have some italian uncles, so it took me 2 years of hearing them speak and ask them to translate for me some stuff to actually learn how to speak italian.I also know some japanese(again from cartoon), but i can't talk japanese, i only understand some words, but would love to have japanese classes, that must be fun!In conclusion i know portuguese, french, english and italian fluently(and spanish as well since it's very similar to portuguese) Tips:Translate a lot of stuff...music,subtitles from shows, movies, etc. Also read a lot of books and translate...this doesn't just increase your vocabulary of words and expressions but will also help you understand and memorize a lot of stuff.Other tip is talk with other people and practice the language.Talking with someone that knows your and the language in question will help you with translation and explain stuff to you, and you get to practice your accent for example.Just don't be shy and the key to sucess in these kind of things is always the same...practice,practice,practice!!!Good luck and remember...watch your language! | | | | | | |

| | I would say it depends on the situation. If you learn the language in the community that where the language is normally spoken, then it will be easier. The problem with learning some languages is that we don't practice them regularly. Therefor, it will be very difficult to master that language. I was learning French 5 years ago but I can only recover a little from French because I never use it in my daily life. | | | | | | |
