The launch of the new Google latitude , though welcome by some also is looked at a privacy threat by others. This feature when enabled allows people to track the location of your mobile therby knowing where you are.
While it's great for bosses who want to know where the employees are, for friends to check out where the wherabouts of other friends and when you misplace your mobile.
But it's not so great when you are made to have this feature o always as an employee , or a young person by your parents or soemone who wants to stalk you.
As this technology keeps keeps developing, the misuse and fears too will kepp increasing.

I would have to say NO,NO,NO. I do not want to be tracked by anyone. As for bosses being able to track their employees, that's illegal. My dad worked for Job Service and he said that's a lawsuit waiting. They are not even supposed to drive by your residense to look for you.

Tracking technologies have been available for a long time already. GPRS for one, triangulation of GSM signals also. The fact of the matter is that authorities are able to hone in to a person's location already whether they're aware of it or not. Then we have services like Twitter where people are constantly updating others on their location; and many apps available on handsets today have built in location features that you can switch on and off as well. We are far more locatable than we realize and most of it is self activated!
Regulatory entities are enforcing rules and guidelines that are making these services permission based to try to reduce misuse, but there is no question that many people will use it innappropriately. Personally I do not activate these services and have no plans to at any time in the future. But I also have no doubt that I can be located regardless!

The technologies have been there for sometime James, and we can get homed on whether we like it or not. But here is an instance which gives you the option of letting people whether it be your boss, friends or family members to know your location. You have made it clear that you have no plans to activate these services though.
Thanks for sharing this. Really appreciate it.

I think you'll find that most people will get all caught up in the gimmick factor, rather than really think long and hard about what it could potentially mean for them and their privacy. I just hope that as much effort is put into policing it's use as they are putting into developing and promoting these types of services.

I value my privacy and I hate someone putting a tail on me as I am a person who always like the head on collisions and direct confrontations.Bur as the things go by no one is secure and everyone is put a tab on them with these modern technology. In that case I think that there is no use in loosing my sleep over it unless I plan to have a great hold up in the near future.

I don't want to be tracked by anyone.. I mean, other people don't have the right to mess about my privacy.. and i don't think companies should do that too, it's ilegal.. tracking devices should only be used in courier services( to track down your package), penitentiary(to track down prisoners, etc.. it shouldn't be used to interfere a person's life!

You are very right Alok, whenever a technology comes into play, it brings its flip side also along with it. Tracking their wards could be boon for parents, they can 'keep an eye' on their grown up children and can advice them at their need of hour. However, grown up kids won't appreicate the same, they do not like that their privacy should be invaded. If I take a mobile, which has this latest technology, I won't mind, if my known to persons or my better half keeps a track of me. If it is someone unknown to me and he is stalking me, I won't appreciate it.

hello,
No i will not like that. If someone will track you it means they dont trust you. say, you are an employee and the boss wants to track you, what for? to find out if you are really in an official business, it seems that there is no trust. for friends, there are always the call and text unlimited so you can know the whereabouts of your friends and join them on gimiks. And as you mentioned, there are a lot of threats for those people you dont know and trust.
take care

Ain't you tracked thru the web reguardless of this software? I thought what ever you write or where ever you go you're watched by someone or something(cookies). So why would this matter?
