you will have to get rid of that male cat right away. it will be of not much use to be cleaning the carpet if the cat will just simply spray all over again what you have laboured to clean so well once more.

for the moment, try the vinegar. i have heard that vinegar really works wonders with housecleaning tasks. that smell is suffocating. it is best that something will be done about it right away.

They sell a product called odo-ban. It is made with euculaptus and leaves a fresh smell. I buy mine at Sam's club. I just add a little to my steam cleaner when I do my carpets and it works for me. I have two dogs and three cats, all of which are indoor animals, and people always remark that there is no animal smell when they come to my house. I also put some in a spray bottle to use as air freshner.

I really never found anything that would eliminate the smell in our house after our male cat sprayed while we were on vacation. I think that the steam cleaner would be a good idea and you might try using Tide with Febreeze and see if that helps. We have a miniature dauschaund and he has peed on the carpet and I try to clean it with laundry detergent as soon as he does his business and it seems to help some.

Get rid of your cat. Washed your carpet with vinegard and then later on soak the carpet in your favorite detergent soap for at least 2-3 hours to get rid the bad smell.
