Has anyone else read "Hardcore Zen" by Brad Warner? I'm almost finished with it; I wasn't sure if it would be worthwhile, and he's definately said some things that stung a little, but upon reflection I can't seem to deny his reasoning. In short, I'm digging it so far! How about you?

I've read this book and I was compelled to spread the word. Warner makes the basics of Buddhism accessible and even humorous. This book has helped me stop to examine my own life/reality, which is something that everyone can benefit from. I've read up on Buddhism but I think this is a great introduction as Warner advises the reader to question authority and to live in the present. It's an informative, inspiring and enjoyable read.

I give it two thumbs up, and I am happy you are enjoying it. He also has another book called sit down and Shut up, check it out. You might find it interesting.

That's what's kept my interest: Brad is open, honest, and humerous throughout. He doesn't pull any punches, and as you said, presents Zen Buddhism in a format that's easily accesible to the modern reader and is more authentic than so many popular takes. I seem to recall seeing his other book, and I think I might go for that one next! Thanks!

I haven't read it myself, but I've listened to you read parts aloud, and of course share Brad's insights. I think what I find most fascinating is how it mirrors the book I'm reading currently "Dematerializing". I think that Brad offers that no none-sense approach to Zen, and I love the fact that his words go along with the old saying "Before enlightenment, carry water and chop wood. After enlightement, carry water and chop wood".

Yeah, it was neat how our books seemed to parallel each other. :) I have to agree--the fact that Brad was brutally honest, even when it came to dismissing his own dream/vision as a distraction from the Here & Now.
