How to lock my notepad document with a password?

I don't think you can add passwords to notepad documents. Maybe your best bet would be to put them into a zip file and put a password on that.

Right click on the text file you created in Notepad and select 'Send to...'

From the sub-menu that pops up select 'Compressed (zipped) folder'

This will create a zip file with the same name as the text file

Right-click on this zip file and select 'Explore'

From the 'File' menu select 'Add a password'

Type the password in twice and click OK

Delete the original text file

I use steganos locknote. this program is so simple and its free... try to find out with google or your fav search engine.... you can give your note password, so no one can open your note^_^

It would of been very useful to let us know what operating system that you are running.
One thing you can do is to get yourself a portable hard drive.
A small storage device, powered by USB and often comes with password protection.

I have one and is the handiest device I own. I love it!
Simply save your document notes to the removable drive. Done!

I am so sorry I can't help you out. I do not know alot about computing and am trying to still learn different things.
I enjoy reading the responses to discussions like this, though because it helps me learn how to do different things.

OK~muru1950, I got two (2) ways to protect my web documents and these are what I've done to all my vital and indispensable internet or any computer files. If you still want to use notepad; you can't give password to a notepad file. If you wish to protect your file. Cut that file/files into a compressed(zipped folder) and then select 'add password' in 'file'. Give password. Hereafter whenever you open this file, it will ask u password.

That is my previous notepad document saving with password, but since two (2) years back, I used my Google Document and it is much easier and convenience; as am no longer have to transfer it to my USD Thumb or Pen Drive. Anywhere there is an internet connection, I can retrieve my protected files.

To do this type of protected saved file keeping;

1. Log in to your gmail account,
2. Click "Document" on top left,
3. Register FREE and follow the instruction given,
4. You can either copy-paste the whole web page articles or upload it by using the URL Uploading Facility Box(copy paste the URL link of that page). In fact, all of your files in your computer you can save it in Google Document.

Every time you want to retrieve your document in your Google Document, you'll be asked for password. Unless, you retrieve it through your gmail email, as it affiliate to each other, just click "Document" on top right and it will straight away go to your Google Document files.

Another option, but this is not to protect your web file and it only meant for hiding your web file from public viewing, if you want to easily keep your many web pages for your future reference you can use "tagfoot.com". Where, every time if you feel that web page is to be your web referral page, you can only highlight the URL Link or the web page title/topic, right click for tagging and it will straight away stored in "tagfoot.com" system.

Well, you find it in a program called "Folderlock". Easy to use, just set your password then choose the folder or file that you want to lock.
