Read an article from CNN about a woman who followed the US Department of Health's advice on how to get healthy. She said that it was a struggle at first but after a month of trying it, she gets the hang of it. What do you do to be healthy? Do you really look at the nutrient content of every food that you eat?

I am very careful about everything that I eat. My son was recently diagnosed as hypoglycemic, so I am also careful about how I do my grocery shopping. I read labels, try to avoid processed foods, eat fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains and fresh meats whenever possible. Also, I read how much sugar is in something - very important. Generally, like with cereals, the more boring it is, the better it is for you. Although a lot of people don't enjoy healthier foods because they say they are bland, that is no excuse. You need to use your imagination and add spices and cook with things like low sodium chicken broth. If you like soy sauce for example, it is available in a lower sodium variety. You can even buy "half salt" which has half the sodium of regular salt, but tastes no different. I remove the skin from my chicken when I eat it, I buy lower fat products. Every little bit helps. Also, in the case of bread, you can buy weight watcher's bread which has half the calories of regular bread, so one serving would be two slices instead of one slice. I use no sugar added jam on my toast, I eat lots of oatmeal (up to a cup per day). Eating more whole grains adds fibre to your diet and helps you to feel full. You can set up your own eating plan, for free, and figure out what you should be eating on a daily basis (calories, etc.) by consulting http://mypyramid.gov

That's good to know. We really have to be careful with what we eat these days.

Food, which is one of the basic needs of man, plays a vital role in our everyday life. Indeed, human beings, like us, won’t survive in this world without having the sufficient food that our body needs. It is definitely a must that we make sure that we have the needed energy before we start doing anything. Eating at least three times a day, together with proper diet and exercise, is good to stay healthy. In addition, food groups, such as fruits and vegetables, can also be used to combine with the food that we eat in our everyday life. Moreover, drinking at least eight glasses of water a day can add more energy to our body to be able to do the things that we need to do. Although some people claim that diet is the best way to stay fit and healthy, it is still yet to be proven by the experts because some people believe that skipping meals is not good for our health. After all, we should still keep in mind that without the proper nutrients and energy flowing to our body from the food that we eat, it would be difficult for us to be able to work on the things that we need to do and at the same time to enjoy life to its fullest. In my opinion, eating three times a day is the best way to stay fit and healthy. Regardless of the type of food that we eat, these three meals, which include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, are the three most important meals that we should take in our everyday life. Breakfast, which is the first meal that we take at the start of our day, will provide the energy that we need to be able to start our day right. Breakfast is indeed important because it breaks the 8-10 hours interval of our sleep, which is probably the longest time interval for us to have the next meal. Equally important is taking our lunch, which is said to provide us enough energy to be able to work well in the afternoon. It is quite hard to work during afternoon because this is the time where people usually get tired and sleepy. Thus, taking lunch before starting to do our work in the afternoon can provide a big boost in our energy level to be able to combat the dizziness and tiredness that we usually feel during the afternoon. Finally, dinner or supper is also as important as the first two meals. This is because dinner or supper is the last meal that we can take for the day. It is indeed a rewarding feeling for us to be able to eat the food that we want to eat after a long time of work. That is why dinner can provide the energy and the nutrients that our body needs after working for almost the entire day. Therefore, these three meals are really a must in our life to be able to achieve a harmonious life while doing the things that we need to do. To summarize, skipping meals is definitely a no-no for us if we really love and care for ourselves. People, who want to achieve a healthy life and nice body, nowadays try to skip meals most of the time; yet, eat a little amount of food for the rest of the day. Yes, this can make our body look good, but can make our immune system weak, which will eventually make our body weak as well. It is not a valid reason for us to skip meals just to maintain our body posture. Indeed, we could still achieve the body posture that we want even though we eat all the food that we want to eat in all of the three meals that were mentioned above. All we need to do is to eat the right amount of food that we can in these three meals and at the same time combine it with fruits and vegetables, and also with proper exercise. In this way, one can still achieve the body posture that he wants while eating all the food that he wants to eat. Unlike skipping meals, which can lead to a serious body problems, eating three times a day can make us stronger and can further protect our body from serious illness, and, at the same time, can also help us to achieve the body posture that we need, just like in skipping meals, if we could combine this with the right amount of exercise and proper discipline. Happy mylotiing!
