"COLUMBIA, South Carolina - Police in South Carolina are giving out roses on Valentine's Day. All you have to do is turn in a gun.
Authorities are running the "Guns for Roses" program Saturday at two locations in the central part of the state.
Anyone who turns in a gun gets a free rose and an electronics store gift card. A handgun gets a $100 gift card, while a rifle or shotgun nets a $50 gift card."

But there is no mention on how many guns were exchanged for roses and gift cards.
Reading the article, I am getting the impression that they want you to produce the gun to be verified that it is a legal one. There is no mentioned that they are gonna be keeping the gun. So that sorts of explain why people are willing to do that for the roses.

| |  yes I have heard of places doing that before about 30 years ago, it was aimed at gangs, young kids, but nothing changes they turn in their gun and later on go and get another one.

| |  I heard that also and I though wth?? I sure wouldn't do that. So if soemone is walking fast behind me as I walk to my car do you think I will be safe saying...."watch it buddy I have a flower in my pocket?" I carry a gun alot but fortunatly only came close to needing it a couple of times.
