| | | | | | | | 1.  daneg33 (1007) | 10 months ago |  Even though it doesn't have a "happily ever after ending", I love the 1968 movie of Romeo and Juliet with Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey. I think it is really great interpretation of the play and is a timeless movie. It won 2 Oscars in 1969 - one for best Cinematography, one for Best Costume Design and was nomination for 2 more - one for best director and one for best picture. It also won 3 Golden Globe awards in 1969. It is one of the most brilliant films ever and definitely worth seeing.

| | | 2. jdholloway624 (27) | 9 months ago | Hey, if Romeo and Juliet lived happily ever after in this movie, then it wasn't Romeo and Juliet! The whole point of the two star-crossed lovers is that there isn't a happy ending. Shakespeare changed theater and drama as the world knew it when he introduced this story. Until then, only histories and comedies were written. This was the first real tragedy, and I think anyone who takes away from that by making them live happily ever after just isn't doing Romeo and Juliet justice.
That being said, when I show the movie to my students, their favorite is the Claire Daines and Leonardo DiCaprio version. They like the guns! | |
