Art myth NO.1 : don't doubt your talent in painting !

Occasionally I think of learning to paint.
Guess like many others, one may easily doubt his talent in art because one tends to think it's artists' job, far from reach for oneself. Don't believe it that " it takes talent to paint". Stop worrying if you have the talent to be an artist or an aptitude. Worrying how much talent you do and you don't have is really a waste of time and energy. Everyone can learn to master the fundamental techniques to good paiting to improve one's creavity. The desire to learn to paint and enthusiasm are what we need more than anything else.

I feel the same way; I'd love to learn to paint! My uncle is a painter and sells some of his work, but is also a professor. However, he lives very far so unfortunately I can't learn from him. Otherwise I'd jump at the chance to attend his classes.

I did take an art class in college, which was fun, but painting is much harder than just drawing.. at least to paint something recognizable. So I've been dragging my feet. It just looks so peaceful, to be able to sit and create images where there was nothing.

Sigh. It's all part of my deep desire to be an artist, lol.

I guess we both have to just face our fears, eh? I mean, what's the worst thing that could happen? We don't like the "art" we create? Then toss it... and start again!

(As I write this, I know I will still avoid the issue, though I have oil paints within inches of me!)

hi,goodnightmoon, wow, a long name, isn't it? you are right paiting is more demanding than drawing. yet it isn't necessary to be regonizable all the time, say abstract paintings. Lucky you, you have an uncle who is an artist, at least he can instruct you where to begin, where to improve. I am an O, know nothing about it only that I want to learn some basic to appreciate art better and to enhanse my taste for beauty. Thanks.

Indeed. Nicknames seem to appear for longer usernames though. Some just write "goodnight", some go with "moon", others go even shorter to "gnm." Whatever works wink

True, abstract art is definitely becoming more popular nowadays. I personally prefer recognizable art (nature mainly) though I do appreciate some abstract art pieces... just not a lot.

But I rarely see my uncle, maybe a couple times a decade, so it's not really possible to learn from him. Not sure if you can really learn art through e-mails, lol.

We all have to start somewhere, eh? Do you know of any art classes available in your area that you could begin to learn?
