Pet names. Ordinary or not?

Wow, someone actually had an iguana! And I'm so glad he was named Spencer instead of what most people would name him, namely Iggy. Your daughter was much more creative than most. So how long did you have him? I have no idea how long they live, but I would think it might be quite some years. Did he act like he cared at all? Was he at all "warm"? Ok, I know that's not a term that would normally be applied to a reptile, but still..........

Let me see if I can remember all those questions without having to go back and look.*LOL*We had him for about 3 years, I think. We gave him to my brother to give to a man who raised them, when my daughter went into high school, and didn't have time to take care of him.
He was a funny creature. He was in a pin in my daughter's room. He figured out how to push the lid up and get out of the cage. He loved lying on her pillow next to the wall. We finally figured out there was a warm spot on the wall that he liked.
I don't know what was wrong with the heat rock we put in the cage, but he didn't care for it much.
He used to try to eat B's socks, if she left them on the floor, and her dance ribbons. Those things were 12 feet long, and he managed to get everything but the plastic handle down his throat. Then, if you tried to get a sock or the ribbon away from him, he would raise a leg(kind of like a cat raising its paw) and hiss at you.
Did he act like he cared at all? Yeah, like I said, he was a funny creature. B used to go into her room after school to do her homework. She would sit on the floor by her bed. As soon as she sat down, Spencer would go to the side of the cage nearest her, and sit and watch her. She started reading to him to see what he would do. He would co ck(mylot wouldn't let me put that together) his head, look up at her, then lie flat on his stomach, legs sprawled out behind him, and listen until she stopped. Then, he would get up, climb to the top of the cage, push the top open, crawl onto her bed, and go to sleep.
If she just went into her room and sat down on the floor to do her homework, and didn't read to him, he would make noises until she pulled out a reading book, and read to him.
He didn't like being picked up and held. B didn't like picking him up because he always tried to attack her. She didn't mind him just crawling up on her lap, or on her shoulders and lying there, though. He did that whenever he got a chance.

I LOVE your pet names! And ya know? I remember when you told us about your son naming the new cats. It was an adorable thing! And I love the names Ruby and Chunk. I think they're definitely not in the most used category of pet names, Irish. But what else would I expect of you? Nothing less!

And may I use your spot to offer a blanket apology for getting here so late? I was working on a couple of pairs of earrings. They make me go blind temporarily, ya know. Tiny damn stuff!!! Sheesh! But I love them and I'm hoping to sell them in March/April when I enter a "show" with an art guild I've recently been introduced to. So. I'm sorry. I pretty much always answer my responses very shortly after they're given, but today didn't lend itself to that.

I do sculpted, hand painted stuff. I mostly do grape clusters and florals. Picture a narrow oval, about 2 inches tall, background painted a very light blue, with a flower on it, and grass growing. Those are my earrings. I love them. And after the show, maybe I'll just send ya a pair, hmmm? We'll talk about it in the next couple of months, okey dokey darlin?

Hermit crabs! Hmmm, I've seen them and known people with them as pets, but I don't know that I could "warm up" to a hermit crab, frankly. But WOW, your child knew the word "mystique" at 4????????? Geez, that's one brainy kid you've got there, Kayla! And his naming the crabs after characters in Hannah Montana seems much more like a 4-5 year old, and I think it's adorable. Reading things like your response makes me nostalgic and thinking once more that maybe I should have had kids.........Nah! I'm fine with my cats! I don't know how I got stuck on the A thing. When I was little and I picked out my names for my the future children I was going to have I decided upon Austin and Ashleigh.

Then when I ended up pregnant again, I actually wanted to name him Ethan but I got out voted and ended up with an Aiden. And then the last time I let the kids name the baby and they narrowed it down to Aerial, Alice, and Alyssa. Alyssa won the vote.

So the pets just sort of followed suit with the kids. I feel bad for my husband being a W, but it is cute every time we stand together with a can of A&W root beer between us:)

Those are great names, moondancer! God, you've got a bit of a menagerie, don't you? I love dobies and although I haven't known a miniature one, I'm completely sure they're as wonderful as the full sized ones. So how's the ferret? Does he cuddle with you? Is he like a cat or dog in any way? I've also never known a ferret, as is evidenced by my questions. Thanks for coming in, moondancer. Miss Noddle Girl mostly stays in her cage, it's a condo cage with two stories and multi levels in it for her to go from one area to another. She has two beds that also serve as hammocks when she wants to lay out in the open. She has all kinds of toys which she does play with. The boys all go over there throughout the day and during the night to play with her. The boys have to be put away so she can have run of the house once in awhile.
She is also aloowed to go into another room shut in with the children when they wish to take her out for playing.
My min-pins are something they each have their own personalities. I have had a full size dobie and he was gotten for my sone, but he stayed with me. He was here until someone down the road killed him along with another neighbors german shepherd. I'm so glad that lady moved!

Hello emilie, and welcome to MyLot!!! Another ferret! Hmmm. I like the names you placed on your animals. Marshmellow is a great name for a white cat. You know, I always wanted a white cat. Never've had one, but my door is always open....although my hubs will have seventeen kinds of fits if I bring yet another cat into this house.

Ok, I have to admit, Freddie and Frankie aren't necessarily overly clever, but they're apt, darling Wolfie, for frogs. And I like Edward for a cat!! I really love the name Octavia though. Beautiful and definitely not one you'll run across much. I'm so sorry though, I don't remember King Zeus, but believe me, I know how very deeply our love for our animals is. My RitaMaeBrown and Clouseau completely broke my heart when they died at ages 18 and 19. It's still broken for them, to be honest. I'll never stop loving them, never. So I do understand about Zeus.

Oh honey, I watch Animal Planet too! And I leave it on when I'm out of the house for the cats to watch, if they have the inclination. I catch Nova watching TV a lot. Little cutie. That little head moving as he follows the movement on the screen. So PinkenWonken-Boy huh? Very, very clever! It must have been a loving nickname that started out of nowhere and then stuck. I used to call my cat Clouseau by "Pooger-Boy" and I'm not sure why either. But it was an ultimately affectionate nickname.

And thanks for the 411 on the platypus! I knew it was SOMETHING having to do with poison! I was an avid Crocodile Hunter fan too. Watched the heck out of it. And it broke my heart when Steve died. What a tragedy that was.

And I very much like the name Jaco, especially since he's named after a bass player. I like to memorialize people and characters too like that. Hence BananaMae, Clouseau, RitaMaeBrown, Mazeroski and Nova. ANd isn't it funny how animals seem to speak humanese sometimes? Weird. Cats do it too. Like saying "mmmmmmmowt" when the want to go out to the sunporch...weird. But wonderful too. I swear, I'm more of a "kitty doorwoman" than anything else!!!
