Are you strict with how much your kid watches and what is contains? Are you careful not to expose your kid and teen to certain words and situations in movies or are you careful up to a certain age then use certain movies/shows as an opportunity to talk to your child about sensitive subjects?

My younger kids have two channels they watch. Neither of them have things to worry about but both have things we can talk about. I watch with the kids (though sometimes I am doing other things at the same time) and we talk about what comes up. My nine year old has a bit more freedom but is still watching with me or my ok and still we talk about what we see. I think that many people either over use the tv or don't think any is good. I'm more of a middle road but I still control the remote.

I'm more a middle road too. My toddler watches Noggin mostly - and me too, while I'm doing other stuff. Of course, my little one is usually doing other things at the same time too. I think we both must be ADHD/multi- I think its good to be balanced in things.

Noggin here too, sometimes Nick Jr. and of course some Disney Kids stuff. My littlest is all over and then he'll just stop to see what ever. I'm so glad they still show Steve's Blues Clues because Rowan has to learn sign and it helps back up what we are teaching.

I love the name Rowan - are you teaching him to sign so he can communicate? I think its a great idea for late talkers.

i think right now my daughter is young enough that it doesn't matter. we watch pbs all day and then i also have a few baby einstein dvd's for her. but when her dad watches tv with her it is usually simpsons and family guy. she is not even a year old yet so i don't know how this will affect her yet. once she gets old enough to understand t hings better i will be a bit more strict.

I'm not sure if its true but I've heard everything sinks in. I don't like family guy because its full of incest, a very sexualized baby and a dog who has slept with the daughter and a lot of violence. Somehow I don't find those things funny and don't want to expose my child to them. At the same time, if your baby is in teh room, she's hanging out with Daddy and that's probably all she really cares about or is focused on. But then I watch things like the Hobbit - although I try to change the channel during violent things.
