Right age to learn swimming?

It is NEVER too soon or too late to learn how to swim.

I believe that learning how to swim and float are essential survival tools.

I personally think that a child should be introduced to swimming as soon as possible after birth (within weeks or months) as they are more familiar with the sensation of the water (after having spent the last 9 months floating around in the womb).

Children at this age have no fear and are amazingly apt swimmers - even able to dive underwater fearlessly.

I would recommend that you and your son both learn how to swim as soon as possible.

It's like driving a car - once you learn how to swim - you will never forget, even if you don't use those skills for years at a time.

I agree with Sparky it is never too soon to learn. Especially if your son will be around water. If there is a lake, stream, ocean, or pool nearby that he could possibly get to then he needs to learn how to swim. And it is great fun and exercise.
