I had someone ask me to sell some stuff on Ebay for them and I am not sure how much commission that I should charge for that. Does anyone here do that and if so, what do you charge? What do you think would be a fair percentage of the selling price? I will do the listing and the shipping.

I've read through the thread & just like my wife said in the 1st response, it's between you & the buyer. Here's some additional tips which I hope may help - you can charge a little more on shipping since it's borne by the buyer, so you can profit from there. If you want you can also try to sell in our place - eBay Malaysia where there's no listing nor final fee charge but I think you can only insert 1 photo though. But you can use free image hosting sites like photobucket, etc for extra super-sized photos input. If not mistaken, eBay Singapore is also another site which doesn't charge for listing fee but I'm not sure on the final fee part. Maybe you can just go check it out!~

It sounds like you know a lot about these sites on ebay. Thanks for the information. It is nice that you and your wife both do this site and that you read what she has posted and add to it.

I do not. I do not exactly trust Ebay. I know a few who got taken when they were shipped the wrong stuff or someone scammed them. Unfortunately sometimes Ebay is the only way for some new stuff to get off the ground.
As for commission, when I was in business college, they told me that the markup is usually 30 percent of what the item was when it was first made and that included taxes, delivery, commissions, etc. but I have no idea what part the commission was.

I had a friend who was very successful on Ebay, but then I knew someone who got scammed. And besides here we have garage sales. And I was told that none of the stuff I had was worth selling.

We have garage sales here too,but I just find that I don't have the time to do them. Also, I know live in the country so it would be hard to have a good garage sale.

I sell on ebay all of the time. Ebay is a very trusted site. However, you might find some sellers on there who can't be trusted. I appreciate the advice though. I am going to charge 10%!

Well, I used to sell on Ebay and know that it does take a lot of time and effort, and now with all of the Extra fees they charge just to list something I would think unless the items you are trying to sell make a lot of $$ it would be hard for the other person to make much from you doing this. But back in the day when I first was doing this we used to charge at least 15-25% for a profit depending on the item. I am sure it is more now maybe, but it would also depend on how close you are with the person as well.

Thanks. I actually do fairly well with most of the stuff that I sell on ebay. I figured I will charge this guy 10% plus he will be responsible for all of the fees. I think that is a fair price and so we will see if he accepts my offer or not. Thanks for the information that you gave me though.

Hi there....yes I do sell items for others on Ebay. It all depends as this is an agreement between you and the person. But it is better to lay down the terms before you start selling because in ebay for certain items in the auction the price can go very high if there are many bidders. In my case, I have sold items for friends who wanted to clear their things. So we said half half. Meaning that whatever amount is sold in ebay, we split half. Postage is beared by the winning buyer of course. There are other friends who just gave m a certain amount to sell for instance 10 dollars and they said the rest I take. Meaning if the item goes up to 50 dollars, I will just give them back 10 dollars that's all. I have sold a music keyboard on behalf of my sister recently and I didn't say anything about the commission because I thought that's my sister so it's okay if I just help her to sell. but when the keyboard was sold off, my mum said to return her the cost price that's all. The profit I take. So I took...
I hope this helps.......

I am deciding that I am going to do 10% with them responsible for all fees, etc. Thanks for telling me how you do this though. I enjoy selling on ebay and would like to do it all of the time. I am not making enough to do that yet.
