|  All this talk about the new MacBook, sleek, sexy, little MacBook. It's a really good laptop, I must say. It's a bit overprice but you're also paying for the brand.
I was surfing around today stumbling upon the new Dell Studio XPS. And first thing that came to mind was that this will be a crazy real competitor to the MacBook. Similar design, better performance, lower price.
What are your thoughts on this? I am tempted to get one to try it out :)

| |  Better performance how? And how much cheaper than the Mac? I may be in the market for a back to school computer within the next 6 months or so that's why I ask...

| | Well better performance in an economical way. Put the same gear in the XPS and you'll have a cheaper computer. ALTHOUGH since even Dell likes to over price their laptops it isn't a huge different in price.
Here let me customize two similar 13" ones:
Apple doesn't give you too many options but for a similar configuration the price difference is $100-300.
So it's not that big of a difference.
Un-customized the MacBook starts $100 less though.
(keep in mind that the Dell comes with 4gb ddr3 already while the mac only has 2gb ddr3) | | | |

| |  Hi arvaster. I'm considering to buy Macbook but, I think now they are too expensive. MacBook is superior when it comes to quality, performance and looks. Dell Studio XPS has an excellent quality built too but the problem sometimes is gets a little too hot. I know because I'm using this kind of computer in the office.

| |  when i choose to buy a laptop i was looking at xps m1330, not the studio xps, because of its gaming capabilities and macbook air because of its physical beauty. but i chose the macbook air because apple really do care about quality. and its very sexy :)

| | Oh yes, the MacBook Air is rather sexy, although it lacks a lot of features and has many big cons.
* No Ethernet port
* 2gb memory
* No battery replace (big cost to go to apple store since batteries usually discharge *after* warranty runs out)
* small hard drive
Not to mention it starts at $1799 - if the thiness outweighs performance and compatibility then I guess its worth it.
For ultra slim I think I would rather pay for the .5cm ASUS laptop :) | | | |

no ethernet port - not a problem cause our home has wifi
2gb memory - not a problem cause im still using xp, im just not yet comfy with leopard, ddr3 with 1033mhz is also what drives me more to pick this rather than the ddr2 800 of xps.
battery died after warranty - lets see though, ive been using this for only 3 months but im planning to buy apple care before warranty ends
little hard disk space - i dont have a problem with my 128 ssd, i also have a 500gb mobile hd for my movies though
price - yeah expensive than other laptop i agree with that
i have a problem though while using my mobile hd and usb mouse together cause i must need a usb hub. lols, but the multi touch touchpad still works great even in windows.
the "wow" stare of the people looking at it is priceless too >:)
