Have you heard of this kind of crab or seen one?

Hi folks...A friend of mine sent me an email with pictures of a coconut crab. Have you ever heard of this type? Apparently they can grow over 3ft long and weigh up to 40 pounds. They are a land type crab related to the hermit crab. Their claws are so strong they actually break coconuts and eat the meat. They can climb trees too but eat coconuts only off the ground.
If I ever had crabs, I definately would not want this type! lol
Take a look at the picture below..imagine finding that in your garbage can!

I wouldn't want to get caught in those claws, im sure they could crush bones.

Yes they are and extremely ugly..I couldnt figure out how to post the picture but will try again..I am fairly new to mylot and havent figured out how to do everything yet because Im too busy chatting! I thought I read somewhere they can be found near the indian ocean.

oh my gosh! i have never seen a crab that was that big before. wow! and no, i wouldn't want to find a coconut crab in my garbage can or anything that i own. yuck! and no wonder that the coconut crabs can crack a coconut open like that, look at how big it's claw's or whatever that they are called are. lol lol wonder how fast that the coconut crab can crawl? i would hate for one of those crabs to be chasing me. lol if those coconut crabs can crack open a coconut like that, i bet it sure would hurt if the crab would happen to get close enough to bite somebody. lol you know? thanks so much for sharing the discussion with us all here at Mylot about the coconut crab for everybody that hasn't ever heard of one before like people like me.
