Hi miamilday! Yes, I have been a victim of double standards and a few other kind of discrimination. I really wouldn't put up with it completely and will fight it if it is worth fighting for. Other times, I shrug it off when it really does not affect me that much.
Take care and have a great day!

Same in computer stores. When we bought my computer the guy just talked to my husband, even though it was my computer. I also have a heck of a time on the phone with tech support.

Thats a great example. I know exactly what you mean. It just seems that, the mechanics will just assume you don't know what they are talking about, or they will more likely try to take advantage of a woman becauses they assume we won't know the difference.

men can have all kinds of girls friends that is okay but if I woman has all kinds of boyfriends then she is loose,

You're right. It's amazing. I think womens rights have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go.

Oh, for sure. There always will be, because it's human nature, I would have thought, to have double standards. I don't like to be that way and I hope I'm not but would also hope that my friends would tell me if I was a guilty party! lol.
Brightest Blessings.

I mean when certain "rules" are applied to one gender and not the other.
For example, your father told you that since you were a female you couldn't be a doctor, you'd have to be a nurse...
Or you are a stay at home dad and your friends tease you because traditionally it was women who used to stay home with the children.

I just remembered an other one.
When I was 15 years old, I had a test.
This test was to find out what the best thing was for my future.
What kind of job.
I was told to repair cars.
That would be the best job for me.
But, my father would not let me study for this.
It was a mans job, and my hands would get to dirty.
I am know 42 years old. He was wrong.
That would have been the best job for me.
But, what choice do you have when your 15 years old.
Take care.

Despite various arguments about it, there's a double standard which exists in my current relationship.
My girlfriend doesn't want me looking at other women, or having postiers/pictures of women in underwear or anythign... which is fine with me. I love my girlfriend and if she has issue with it I'm more than happy to compy with her wishes. I don't care about other women, 'cause I'm in love.
HOWEVER, my girlfriend still comments on other guys who are hot and she'll have pictures of Johhny Depp in her room and stuff.
That really bugs me. Not so much that she notices other guys, but just that she has issue with me and girls, and yet thinks it's ok for her to do the exact same thing in reverse.

Yeah, that's definitely not fair.
Just to (maybe) help you with some insight.
There have been times when I overcompensated for my defensiveness of double standards by going to far in the other direction.
For example, my dad used to be very demeaning and bossy to my mother.
I swore I would never allow that to happen to me. So, while making sure that I would not be treated that way, I ended up being the aggressive one who said things that I should not have said. It took me a while to realize what I was doing.
Not sure if this applies to your situation or not, but it might.

I have been expected to change my behaviour to suit people whose religious beliefs are more conservative than mine, yet if they were asked to do the same for me, to conform to a more liberal standard, they would not do it. I hate how those with more liberal beliefs are expected to conform to the more conservative ones, when faced with a difference of opinion.

I hadn't thought about those double standards, but your right. That hardly seems fair!

oh yea,it still exists.
i've had a number of "non-traditional" jobs over the years (such as demolition)
and it's almost like you have to prove yourself before they quit looking at you funny..which is total BS.
i remember getting strange looks applying for a dishwashing job.
"are you sure you can do it?"
oh please.it's not rocket science, and it's not like we don't do it at home.

I had to laugh about them question your ability to wash dishes.
Yep, people (men) can be ridiculous! lol
Thanks for the response!
