Obama Is Stimulated The Sell Of Atlas Shrugged |
|
For the month of February Atlas Shrugged tripled verse last year. Now it is just a guess but maybe it has something to due with the uncanny similarities between the plot-line of the book and the events of our day, but like I said just a guess.

2. suspenseful (17095) | 10 months ago | I remember reading the book years ago. I read most of Ayn Rand's books. I found the idea that the less productive members of society prey on the more productive members, and that the similarities between what Obama wants -more state control - and what the people in the novel are going through as a result a warning as to what might happen. Of course, if Obama gets his way - no guns allowed for private citizens, and perhaps maybe detaining leaders of a strike - well - but then I tell people that I will give them the worse that will possibly happen, so that this does not happen. Maybe I should read the book again. I do not know if I still have it. Probably will have to get it at the Second Hand Book Store.

If everyone in the US read (and understood) it, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in today. It should be required in every literature class. I have read it many times through the years and it seems more valid each time.

4. drknlvly6781 (3165) | 8 months ago | And I thought that I was the only one that saw the similarities in today's society and this book!!! I feel slightly different though. I feel that it was the Bush administration that made it feel more like we were living in the days of Atlas Shrugged. He reminds me so much of James Taggart it isn't funny. That man got this country into a big mess, while continuing to say things that basically boiled down the the cries of Jim "It couldn't be helped, it isn't my fault, there was nothing else that I could do". Plus, with him simply throwing money at us as a last ditch attempt to make things better didn't help things either (Bush that is) I may get a lot of flack for this, but I would belive Obama to be a Dagny Taggart or even a John Galt, for the simple fact he is not just handing money that we don't have out, but he is rewarding those who are willing to work to get this country back on track.

gewcew23 (4073) | 8 months ago | Please reread the book if you actually think Obama is John Galt or Dagny Taggart. In the book Obama is James Taggart how can you not see that?

drknlvly6781 (3165) | 8 months ago | I understand your position from previous responses you have made, and I know you are against the spending that Obama has started. However I believe that Obama is either Dagny or John because the programs he is spending on are things that are to keep the nation afloat and cause it to be self-sufficient, unlike Bush who tended to spend on programs that were of personal interest to him and his family. I believe Obama to be of the nature of these characters because even though he is spreading money, which can be mistaken to be of the motives of James Taggart, he is rewarding work because that is what the nation needs, things that work, generate money.
I've read the book at least three times on whim alone, I suggest YOU study further into Obama's policies and plans to get back on track.

gewcew23 (4073) | 8 months ago | But that is not what John Galt did nor is it what Obama is doing. Where did John Galt take money from one group of individual by force and give it to another group that did not earn it? Obama's plan will not make anyone self-sufficient. How does government ownership of the auto industry create self-sufficient? Look you can try to convince me that Obama is John Galt all you want to, but he is James Taggert. Like I said show me where in Atlas Shrugged or from Ayn Rand's Objectivist teaching that Obama is right?

drknlvly6781 (3165) | 7 months ago | I will never try to convince you of anything on this site; however I will defend to the death my opinion. One thing you fail to factor in is that neither James Taggart nor John Galt ran a country, especially one in the wake of what a true Jim Taggart i.e. George Bush does to a country. Bush only spent on the things that were of personal interest and make the country seem "rich" and "powerful" on the surface, but on the inside we were falling apart. Isn't that the theme of the villians in that story hmm?
Also, and it's been quite some time since I've read this part of the book so if I err please feel free to correct; didn't John Galt have a tax that was paid by everybody in the land that Dagny crashed into, which was paid to the Mulligan Bank (?), and used for the good of everyone in that valley, which was a valley of people that worked? This is the part of the book that is similar to Obama's plan. He is taking the hard earned dollars of the taxpayer, and putting them into programs that will help those who are hard working to get ahead.
You asked me to show you where in Atlas Shrugged that Obama is right, I ask you to show me where he isn't.

gewcew23 (4073) | 7 months ago | This has gone on long enough. If I had wrote a discussion that said Obama is stimulating sell of the Bible you would try to convince the me that Jesus is Obama and Satan is Bush. If Ayn Rand was alive today she would not believe that you actually believe that Obama who believes Looting from the producers is John Galt. All I got to say is you are hopeless.

I do think Obama is a great person, but Jesus he is not. However, you may be on to something about Bush being Satan lol.
Seriously though, you are the one that there is no hope for. You are so against Obama himself that you fail to see what he is doing to help the economy. Yes, most of us believe in Lassiez Faire, but that was thrown out the window when the automotive industry and the banks kept going back to the government for handouts. I know the ideal is that they get no money from government at all to run business, but isn't it better that government place some regulations on the monies they get? Or would you rather they continue getting handouts as they were? But I do have to agree, the way that the automotive industry handled it reminds me a lot of James Taggart, special favors and whatnot.
What Obama is doing is restructuring after the mess that Bush left. The automotive industry is one of the backbones of US society, and that is what Obama is trying to save. You keep looking at this like the favor James Taggart showed Owen Boyle over Hank Rearden, and the situation is more like Dagny trying to save the Rio Norte line in order to save all of Taggart Transcontinental. But you don't have to believe it works. In May, in my state, there were 2100 LESS claims for unemployment than the month before. These people aren't just simply existing on air, they have had to do something, like ummm FIND A JOB in order to let that pittance go, or just not apply. Obama must be doing something right.
P.S. Sorry it took me so long to reply, had a tough time finding the discussion again
