[b] Mommy, can I play meyero? (Mario) [\b] My foster brother who is turning 3 in july is totally addicted to playing super mario world. He has figured out some of the controls now, and he can walk both ways and jump. He has also figured out that it is [i]him[/em] who makes the little fellow walk around the screen. We also have a wii which he does like, a playstation and all kinds of 'crap', but he allways wants me to get my old school SNES (super nintendo entertainment system) out of the closet. It seems like certain games are timeless and children and adults will allways love them. What is your favourite entertainment system, and why?. Share a fun memory, your favourite game for this system or a fun anekdote if you will.

I think kids really enjoy the old systems because they are more simply presented and it is not so intimidating. It does not take them long, though, to graduate to better systems. I am not sure if anyone has ever even heard of this game but it was made for the original Nintentdo Entertainment System, which we still have. It was a game called "Castle Quest" and was a lot of fun to play despite the glitches. We never did rescue the princess (?) but we spent many evening as a family trying to get through the many many rooms to get to the princess. My daughter earned her first Nintendo when she was around six years old. I had little chores for her to do and together with birthday money (from us and aunts and uncles) helping out, she was able to get her first Nintendo. She was so excited and proud to go to the store, pick it out, and begin to play it. We began to play Mario brothers with her. Her character fell down the gap from five to seven times. She suddenly got up and announced that she would never play this game again and went to her room. My husband and I looked at each other, after she shut the bedroom door, and grabbed the controllers and proceeded to have an evening of great fun. We were having so much fun that we do not remember when she returned to the room. By the end of the first week, she was a Mario expert and I was asking her to get my Mario to jump and run, etc. to get by certain barriers. We have not put down those controls for twenty years and still enjoy a good round of game play from time to time.

I couldn't agree more, these old games have a certain quality that makes you want to play them over and over again. Kids around the ages of 6 to 8 seem to be the experts on these simple games. Perhaps we think much to difficult to play these games well, and we are less agile and less quick with responding I guess. I did hear of the game but i never played it. I loved the game troll island on the SNES and after years I have found one. You play a treasure troll and every piece of ground you touch turns coloured. The whole land has lost his colours to an evil wizard. It is a very sweet, non violent game with the goal to colour back every stage by walking everywhere and defeating enemies by throwing cakes at them and eating the blob of cakes that is left over. If you haven't tried it, I'd recommend to look for it! Happy gaming and thanks for responding!

It would indeed be fun to download the game for the wii! At the time being I play it on my old SNES system which luckily is well preserved and still works like a charm. It does show some signs of getting older, but what do you expect after allmost 20 years of service? Gaming as a family is great, I agree. My father doesn't like to game, but me and my mom can have a great time playing SNES or WII together.

That sounds like a really good game. Maybe it will be eventually a game that can be downloaded on the Wii. If it is not, it's always fun to eBay it. Another great thing of gaming as a family is that as your kids get older the gamers will want to gather at your home and now you can keep an eye on what's going on in the middle of beating them from time to time. :) I find that most gamers are usually the quiet, smart kids. They usually are more conservative and a good bunch.

I used to have one of the original Atari's for God's sake! I think they still have mass appeal because they're in entertaining formats where you don't have to think too hard and can just play! My favourite system to date was my Nintendo 64. I used to own one many years ago and literally played hundereds of hours of games on it. My favourite game was GoldenEye, where I got to be James Bond and shoot the living crap out of everything! lol. I've also owned a Sega, XBox and an SNES as well at one time or another. It's been a long time since I've owned or played on any consoles though.

Aw, that's too bad, James! You should really try extra hard this year to capture Santa, and you might be able to dig through the presents and get yourself a new console , lol! I agree the nintendo 64 had some great games aswell. Me and my neices have played mario party for hours!

I agree it is very cute indeed. Don't you love it when they tilt the whole controller pad because they think they will steer their car or persona that way? It's surprising how fast they pick these things up, more often than net they are way better in playing games than us! Enjoy watching your little boy, they grow up so fast! .

We have my old NES and SNES from when I was a kid. Both of my kids love playing them, especially Mario 3. We have every other Nintendo console that was made (including the Wii), but there are many times they just want to play the old , simple games. They even just enjoy watching me play it. Unfortunately the controllers we have are starting to wear, so I am going to have to try and find some new ones.

Thank you for responding, breezie! It's good to see you around. I hope you still enjoy mylotting here and have made it to your first payout by now. To go back on topic: it's good to hear that your kids enjoy the old consoles. It seems to be a universal thing that children like the simple games better than the new, high tech, 3D games that are out on the market. We have a bunch of different consoles aswell and my foster brother likes the SNES best. We do not have a NES but I think he would love that one aswell.

I really like oldschool games. I find them to be funner than some of the newer stuff. That's not to say all new stuff is bad, but the classics will always be the classics. So many good games, and many good times. The NES and SNES are some of the best systems in the world of gaming in my opinion.
