History project- any ideas? |
|
My kids are home schooled and I have decided to sign them up for a history project fair. It will be like a science fair but it will be a history project instead. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what kind of project would be good for this or even a good subject that I could have them consider. So what interests you about history?

carolscash (4886) | 11 months ago | That is actually a good idea. I thought about having them research the game of Monopoly. It would be an easy one to find plenty of stuff for to do a project I would think.

carolscash (4886) | 11 months ago | That might be a good subject too. I want them to have something that they are interested in and yet something that will be of some interest to others too. It could be a lot of fun to do this. I am hoping that they will enjoy it too.

3. rocketj1 (2217) | 11 months ago | I've always enjoyed the study of how people lived at different times in history. They could compare the modern conveniences of today, to how people functioned in daily life during a certain era in the past. Personally, I'd find that interesting!

carolscash (4886) | 11 months ago | That is a good idea too. I think that they would enjoy doing colonial times and I thought that I might have them combine a couple of ideas from here. How about the study of toys that they play today combined to the toys that were played with in colonial times.

carolscash (4886) | 11 months ago | All of these are good ideas but not exactly what I was looking at. I think that they should do something a little more fun than just a regular history lesson and I think that it will have to be something that is of some interest to them. Thanks for the ideas though.

5. suspenseful (17152) | 11 months ago | It depends on how old your kids are. You can maybe get them to make something like they did in the nineteenth century or maybe the eighteenth century. Get them to dress up like revolutionary times, etc. If there is a museum town near where you live, you can take them to that and show how the people lived long ago, like perhaps cowboys in the old west, people in the 18th century, etc.

carolscash (4886) | 11 months ago | It would be nice to see them dressed up like that. I will suggest it to them when we start to work on this over this upcoming week. Thanks for the ideas!!

suspenseful (17152) | 10 months ago | I always liked it when people dressed in those old costumes. When we lived in Saskatoon we used to go to the Old Museum where they had a town that looked like it was in the 1900s and when we went to Prince Edward Island, we went to Anne of Green Gable's cottage and saw how they lived then. It was very exciting finding how they actually worked in those days. And if we do or I go to the States, I would like to go to Williamsburg to see how they lived in the 1700s.

carolscash (4886) | 10 months ago | I would like to go to Williamsburg at some time too. I think it would be a fun trip and that we would all learn a lot about colonial times. I have been to Virginia but never Williamsburg.

suspenseful (17152) | 10 months ago | We passed through Virginia (or was it West Virginia) on our way back to Manitoba, but did not stop anywhere, just looked at the scenery. I hope to go there in the future, but it is hard with my husband having a stroke and not being able to get around. We do not have the car anymore. I do not drive. When I could have learned, it was either getting lessons and buying a car or finding a place to live. I did not make enough money to do both. So I guess it will have to be on a bus tour or with someone else who likes to sight see like me.

carolscash (4886) | 10 months ago | That is too bad that you didn't get to learn to drive. I hope that you get to go there someday. If I ever go, maybe we could go together. I would just have to drive to Canada and pick you up first. That gives me more of a vacation!!

suspenseful (17152) | 10 months ago | That would be wonderful. I sort of like to go traveling and I wish I had enough money to afford a car, plus licenses, etc. When I was in my late teens, I lived with this family and they went camping all over British Columbia, and then went to Washington, and once to Oregon, but I discovered I never liked camping. You know the fairy story about the Princess in the Pea? That was me. If there was a pebble on the ground, I could feel it under the air mattresses.

carolscash (4886) | 10 months ago | I like to camp but not in a tent. I want a few more luxeries than that. I like the small campers that are just nice enough that you can enjoy the time that you are in the woods.
