whois.net - do you use it for PTC?

So in trying to find the honest PTC/PTR's I heard to check them out at Whois.net. So I have, but no matter what I put in for the name, the structure of the name...it 99% of the time says "not valid"...or whatever the specific thing says. So what is the point of that site if it doesn't recognize so many sites? OR am I doing it wrong? I mean, I have put in sites I know are valid, I have worked them and still, they dont even show up. So...what am I doing wrong?
