What do you like most and least about your work?

I work as a call center agent...hmmm, I love the fact that I get to hang out with my teammates in the office, and I love our office, its a nice place and I get to hang out in the mall afterwards.

The thing that I hate about it? I get to talk to a lot of irate people! lol

I work at AAA in the roadside assistance call center. I don't mind my job itself too much. Obviously I speak to several people a day who are rude to me but I can tolerate that most of the time. They give us great benefits and good pay. I however don't like to work I'd rather be at home with my kids and I get bored very easily. I've been working here for almost three years and it's just the same thing everyday.

As my avatar probably suggested (and as many probably gathered from numerous previous posts I have made), I am a dancer. Basically, it poses exactly the joys and rigors you would expect from showbusiness...

I always wanted to be a professional athlete, and artist, and a musician and perform a lot, so what better way to marry these interests and aspirations than with dance? I love the new challenges, especially the physical ones dances poses which fulfills the athletic aspect, and I love being creative and being able to compile something that did not exist two days ago (or a week/month/year ago or however long it takes). It's quite exciting. Because I am an independent artist, I get to manage my own career, which is also a plus. I love being the one in total control without someone else determining my self worth and what I can and can't do for me.

The downsides are of course, the usual. Often you see a bunch of less-talented people getting more recognition than you, or you're just not given a fair chance by other professionals. After all, a lot of your success is based on your ability to impress strangers which comes naturally to me on stage, but not in your more social and settings. There are a lot of arrogant people in the business who think they know everything and want to control your every move and will do anything to influence you... I also hate listening to my fellow professionals talk politics... They're hard lefts; I'm a hard right... and our job is not to conduct ourselves as politicians anyway...

Because I decided to become an independent artist, finding studio space to work in and finding performance opportunities can be murder. Funding your own is a real challenge as well. Being your own boss doesn't give you the same benefits working for a company would, so you have to find the opportunities yourself. With that comes even more difficulty finding ways to make money is a profession that is already notorious for generating very low incomes. I have had people try to talk me out of trying to "make it" for that reason alone.

But the way I see, it, you weigh out the pros and cons objectively, and in my experience, the pros well outweigh the cons. I don't want to go through life wondering what could have been, so I choose to brave the rain to get to the rainbow... I would encourage others to do the same.
