Hello everyone here Ji, Today is Holi. I wish you all a very 'Happy Holi'. Let's burn all evils/bickerings into fire and enjoy Holi."Holi (referred to as Phagwa in Bhojpuri), also called the Festival of Colours, is a popular Hindu spring festival observed in India, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad, the UK and Nepal. In West Bengal, it is known as Dolyatra (Doljatra) or Boshonto Utsav ("spring festival"). The main day, Holi, also known as Dhulheti, Dhulandi or Dhulendi, is celebrated by people throwing coloured powder and coloured water at each other. Bonfires are lit the day before, also known as Holika Dahan (death of Holika) or Chhoti Holi (little Holi). The bonfires are lit in memory of the miraculous escape that young Prahlad had when Demoness Holika, sister of Hiranyakashipu, carried him into the fire. Holika was burnt but Prahlad, a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu, escaped without any injuries due to his unshakable devotion. Holika Dahan is referred to as Kama Dahanam in Andhra Pradesh. Holi is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Phalugna or Falguna (Phalgun Purnima), which usually falls in the later part of February or March. In 2009, Holi (Dhulandi) is on 11th March and Holika Dahan is on 10th March." may god bless you and have a great time.

It is funny how you mentioned this, earlier today I was telling my mother about this holiday, having no idea myself that it was today. I always do things like that without knowing that they are occurring as I speak about them. Someday I would like to see the Holi celebration, it is really pretty and I am sure it would be very exciting to run around in the streets splashing people with colors. Happy Holi to you and have a great day!

Hello my dear sugarplum9084 Ji, AS per our calander auspicious time of Holi-burning was after 2245 hrs on 10-3-09, and playing of colors and splashing should commence after dawn on 11-3-09. I am from UP (Kanpur), where Holi used to be cebrated for eight days. Shops used to remain closed. In this festival, we are supposed to greet our guest for eight days. So tell me how you would celebrate today. You may also check with my earlier (15 days back) postings on Holi. I have posted many significances about holi. May God bless you and have great time.
