We spent our days climbing tree, loiterng around parks in afternoon heat, we could go and live with our grandparents for months and didn't have a care in the world. While our kids are expecte to learn swimming, dancing, music, karate, or improe their maths and science during breaks. Do you think we demand more from our kids these days. Life is more competitive for them then it was for us?

Yes I agree how you choose to teach your child your values and skills is entirely up to you. Many times those whow e think will be the worst parents end up raising amazingly great kids.

And what about acting? They are now expected to do things which we didn't do in our live ever(At leaast I didn't do). I don't know how my child would grow up because I don't know, what my society would tell you about my child. The parents hear things from their neighbour, relative and family members and the expectation raises higher and higher every day. I can see children on National TV and no doubt they are talented but what effect it is giving on other children. I am afraid that this will turn our children into some kind of machine!

Yes I agree and somehow now every parent want their kids to be either good in acting or telling jokes or dancing and somwhere its depressing for a normal average kid, its the way when people wanted their kids to be first in the class always.

I also try and not put any stress onmy son I make him prepare for exams ten days prior to the finals and then leave it at that during exams he just has to read up his material and I am happy with whatever rank he passes. Infact Monday he has his exams and we are going to visit Nathula Pass near China border on Sunday morning. He is through with his revision so why not?

I am glad that my mum and dad never expected me to come at 1st position everytime in my class. I was very bad in sports and cultural activities. I was a good student and my best effort was to come 3rd in my class. i was even got reward when I came 3rd from that school I think I made them proud in my school time!

Children can subconsciously feel what their parents feel. So, if the parents feel sad, the children will sense this and try to cheer up their parents. Children are smarter than we think they are.

I think that the only extra demand on children is from the parents. The only thing that children really need to do is studdy and do well in school. Other than that they should be out climbing trees and doing all of the things we did as kids. We just thought that we would die of boredom but turns out we were wrong.

Yes and its putting pressure on the kids and I have come across kids who go in to depression if things do not work out the way they want them to. Its becoming a scary scenario these days.
