"A musical version of the hit movie "Ghost" will steam up a stage in London next year.
Many of the same people who created the 1990 movie with Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg, will work on the play.
Variety said that Dave Stewart of Eurythmics and Glen Ballard, the songwriter-producer who did Alanis Morissette's album "Jagged Little Pill," will write the music and lyrics.
Bruce Joel Rubin, who won an Oscar for writing the movie's screenplay, will write the book for the musical.
Casting has yet to be announced.
The film earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Goldberg."
i hate musicals.. so im not amused that they are going to take another movie and make it into one.. but for those that actually like musicals do you think this will actually fly?

| | In ways, it's going to be an improvement on the original (some will like the shift-in-focus); in other ways, it will be a dis-service to 'the franchise' (as in most musicals, there's always the danger of descending into "campy-ness").
I see it one of two ways: either a 'semi-opera' (maybe not "singing" the whole time, but "musical" the whole time ... respectable, maybe in memory of the old theme), or a 'play full of songs" (in which every scene is a warm-up to a song with a cool-down after ... kitschy ...)

| |  I see musicals as a form of parodying, but I can't imagine a movie like Ghost turned into a parody. That's sick.
I guess people are really running out of ideas. Or maybe I can't appreciate modern arts?...

| |  Interesting that Dave Stewart is involved in writing it, and the story does lend itself to being a musical because of the sad theme. I too am not a great fan of musicals though, and was never really that big a fan of the film Ghost too if I'm honest so I certainly won't be going to see it.
