Husky dogs are GREAT for any family or single.

Don't they still have a lot of wolf instinct? Are they good for kids?

Meet Hero (picture attached). He is my big baby. I have two huskies Hero which is 2 years old and his mommy which is about 4 now. You're right they are beautiful family animals. Does yours sing to you? This is a charactertistic that Huskies are known for. Hero will sing for you when you whistle for him. I love my dogs, they mean the world to me.

Previously there was a post on mylot, which was based on a recent incident. The incident was about two pet dogs killing a baby in their own house. When I was a kid, we had a pet dog. It once tried to bite me. So my mother asked my father to not have pets till I was older.
I would also suggest to you and others not to keep animals as pets when you have kids in the house. Keep as many as you like after the kids are old enough.

I don't have a husky but my daughter has one and it is a female, she is very gentle too and loving, she hardly ever barks, but man does she like to talk. She will hold a conversation with you in Siberian all day long if you talk to her. She loves the outside, love to dig holes in the yard.

I also have a question. My daughter's husky sheds like made twice or year. Does your husky sheds if so what do you do for it?

What you have for a dog is what in the northern states is called an American Husky they are 50% wolf and 50% Siberian. It gives them far better traits then the Siberian has. I breed them here in North Carolina. The dogs are a bit smaller then a Siberian. They also have different colorations. My female came from Maine. We are now Mixing her in with an Alaskan husky so we can add in some muscle. There smartness, is a bit more as well then even the Siberians have.

My female is a very smart dog, if you ask her "do you love me?" she will bark. Other then that she hardly ever barks. In fact she is not even a good protection dog. She will allow anyone to go up to her. Our Alaskan Male on the other hand is the opposite he is so big that he scares people. Yet he barks at them when they come in. He also will bite anyone that comes to close if they are not introduced by one of his pack (which is us).

For 20 years we have bred huskies, I have to say that I gave up after 10 years of breeding Siberians when I got my very first American. I loved my Americans they were so much easier then the Siberians and there were no problems with them. They were the perfect dog. Smaller, smarter, more loyal, easier trainable, better with children. The only flaw with them is that you cant show them in dog shows. But they are great sled dogs, as well as pets. All of mine are used for sledding once a year and then they are kept as pets and breeding for the rest of the year. This way they are treated with love the way a dog is suppose to be treated not like most sled dogs are treated.
