Guinea pig rescues and shelters. Did you know there was such a thing?

I didn't until I was reading petfinder's newsletter this week. I guess people get rid of all kinds of pets. Has anyone out there adopted a Guinea pig from a shelter or rescue?

I haven't adopted a guinea pig, but if I didn't have a full house I'd consider it. They are easy pets. They are really smart, don't eat a lot and sleep in their cages. Shelters get all kinds of animals that their humans have gotten tiered of. If it's a pet, shelters get it dumped on them by irresponsible humans who no longer want the responsibility they agreed to.

I had hampsters in high school. It didn't take much time to care for them. Cage cleaning took the most time because I used shredded newspaper for their cages. This was in the days before paper shredders were common. I had to play with them every day to keep them socialized. Now there are all kinds of new litters that you can use for them. Plus paper shredders than will make great nests in minutes flat.

our shelter used to be pretty much cats and dogs only.
now people are dropping off guinea pigs, birds, rabbits, ferrets, you name it.
i was amazed at the number of pedigreed pets too.don't these people research the breed before they buy it?
i've only adopted cats so far,but i was thinking i might get a hamster if they get one.i used to have them as a kid,and they were cool.

I had drawf hamsters when I was a kid and I loved them. I used to raise them and trade them to the local pet store for food and bedding for the ones I kept as pets. I raised my baby hamsters well, they were friendly and didn't bite. The pet store loved them cause they made great pets. And I loved raising the babies. Most people don't research the breed of cat or dog before they get them, they just think it would be cool to have type A or B cat/dog and then they are unhappy with the traits of the pet that are typical of the breed. I am pretty much a cat person at this point and probably will continue to be so. I want to help cats in general as much as I can and I love spoiling the two I have.
