Has anyone here ever heard of "The Institute for Human Continuity". I just found out about this. I am seriously interested in groups such as this. I am not so much terrified of the whole 2012 thing, but I am worried about the existence of humans in the next few hundred years. I have been working for the past two years on writing a protocol for a global effort to build and occupy a multi-generational ark to spend a 400-500 year voyage searching for even a terraform potential planet. So anyone have anything to add. Check out the institute. They even have a lottery to join their plan. Seems like the right idea to me, although I was planning a more technocratic approach and planned breeding programs and well, that's enough for now.

When the time comes, the time will come. If we mean to save ourselves with will have to be a unanimous effort, of everyone. To the benefit of not themselves, but everyone else. We should start now. But it is not likely to happen. Multi generational ark sounds fun. Good luck getting it all up and going.

It's frakkin huge! Large enough to hold a final population of 8,000 and with support systems to sustain them all. My final population at 400 years is only 5000 with a starting pop. of 500. that is why I have suggested controlled breeding programs. i am planning on having the written protocol and suggested structure finished in the next two years. I do have a good number of qualified people helping with the think tank side of it. If I can get it done in the next two years, I plan to begin proposing it to large groups of the scientific community and whatever govt. groups will listen. My plan is for a combined effort of all major govts. and a computer generated list of people to ensure proper genetic diversity. The ship itself would become a stating structure for living and would also contain a few shuttles with a limited fuel supply to check out potential planets. A gigantic fission fed ion engine would slowly power up the ship and over a hundred years accelerate the ship slowly to very high speeds. If it all works out , you will know. We have the technology, it's just time for one of us to allocate and formulate the use of it. Thanks for the kickin reply.
