I'm wondering about what it really takes to make a go at using the stock photo sites for selling my images. Does one have to be a "professional" and use the best and most expensive equipment?
What type of equipment and subjects etc are likely to me picked.
What stock sites are the best for trying? The ones that offer a subscription for paying customers that let them download X per month, so they have a vested interest to download as many images as possible?
Thanks for your help.

What camera would you suggest as a starter? I have a Kodak EasyShare Z1285 HD.
It's a standard pointNshoot, but is 12MP and able to take photos in an HD format.
Thanks for your help, I will check your profile for those links.

dolphin2406 (693) | 10 months ago | I think 12mp is very good. I have a Canon90iS and it has many settings to shoot in different environments. You have to get to know what best ISO and contrast modes to use in different situations.

| Deloric (30) | 10 months ago | Yeah that is something I would need to learn about more, I'm trying something new now. I have been more into 3d graphics, so I thought this might be a nice way to branch out.

Hosusehold objects, toys etc also do well (but not if the brand can be identified).
Landscapes, flowers and events have a limited potential because anyone can do them, meaning there are too many to compete with.
Your resolution is not as important as how clean your pictures are; any pixelation, chromatic aberration or noise will make you images unsaleable. Your camera will probably produce OK photos in bright light, but that is about it as far as sock is concerned, but 12 Mp on a compact camera is generally too high (so many pixels packed onto a tiny sensor sensor generates heat and noisy images result at anything above 200 ISO).
You have obviously looked at some sites; go back to the ones you are interested in and review their term and conditions, then look at what they are selling~ most will tell you which are their best selling pictures and best selling photographers. Compare your photos with these; if you can match the range and quality at a file size acceptable to the site, go for it. If not,you will know what to aim for. But keep in mind, this is a numbers game; you need probably 500 to 1000 images to begin making money, and many photographers have libraries of stock much, much bigger than that!

| Deloric (30) | 10 months ago | Thanks for the info David! I think I got a little info overload there, but I can tell I'll really have my work cut out for me, building a bigger library of good content.
Lets not forget the learning of good composition, lighting etc! Oh my, what did I get into.;)
