I have four blogs but since i dont have time to update it.
A guy in mylot earns 100$ .month and his blog was very simple,not very fancy but he used to update it everyday thats how he bought so many readers:)
For you i sugggest you pick a topic of your interest,dont make too many blogs thats how i started wrong i had to many blogs that i lost heart

Try getting templates other official templates for your blog as it will you make your blog very unique indeed

blog is like a your own site but they are ready made site unlike in free webhosting site you need to assemble your site whether using wysiwig or codes. when people write blogs, they tackle about their interest but most people make their life as there main topic to their blog. as for myself i have a site and at the same time i own a blog with the same purpose. to start blogging, you must think whether want do you want to share to your readers but you must make sure also that it will attract the interest of others. you will earn through your blog by placing ads to your free space. its either the advertising site you applied to will pay you by the numbers of visitors that go to your site or by the number of visitor clicks on their ads. another way also is reviewing products and services of a company. they will pay you according to the stats of your blog. don't forget also to sneak out on other blogs and offer a link exchange to them so that you can gain visitors as well as rank for your blog. hope this help.

I have a blog and like you am still learning the Ropes. I have two blogs one of my is about my hobbies and things like that the other blog is about how to make money online. Am happy you made this discussion, because I've found on mylot that their is a wealth of knowledge that you can learn.

1. A blog is simply the free form writing of your ideas, opinions, or stories, or even facts that you want people to know. It originally came from when the internet was still new and people were using it to documenting their daily lives. They work very simply. You write your point of view on a subject you know a lot about.

2. Getting started is a bit tougher, lots of sites that host blogs. Some even pay for you to blog. Here is where I recommend you do some research, to find the host site that best fits you. Check out problogger.com for a starting point. He has a ton of information on blogs. Not a referral link. He will probably be the first blogger you run into when doing your search.

3. On most blog host sites you earn money through ad clicks and the amount of traffic. Monetizing your blog means you put ads on your blog and when a visitor clicks on it, you get a certain amount of money. You can also advertise products and get a percentage of the sale called affiliate marketing. Also, adding a donation button doesn't hurt either.

The key to making any real money on a blog is to get traffic to your site. It is not only important to write your blog, it is just as important to advertise your blog as well.

1. Blogs are actually a form of online journal. They can be on something as mundane as stuff that happens in your everyday life, or they can be on more specialised areas of interest like chess, computers, etc

2. Blogger or Wordpress are just a couple of examples of free blog hosts. The things that are more difficult to figure out are proabbly configuring your blog, changing the display etc. Thankfully, you'll only have to do it once (or until you decide your blog needs a new look)

I assume you should have an idea of how a diary is written. It pretty much works the same way for a blog. You type out your entry, then publish it on your blog and blog entires are displayed with the latest entry at the top. Here's my blog so you can see an example http://www.writingfulltime.blogspot.com If you view the entry at the very top, I have actually set that to a future date (August 25 2010), since I wanted that entry to be at the top.

3. For generating income, blogs generally do that by displaying ads on their blogs. There's ad providers that will pay you per click, or ad providers that pay you a fixed amount of money each month. If you look near the top right corner of my blog, you'll see an ad by Google Adsense.

The most important thing I have learned is that you have to have traffic and in order to get traffic, you have to have content that people want to read! Before even thinking about setting up a blog, figure out what you are going to write about because blogs go two ways - 1. You write it for your personal satisfaction and enjoy whatever responses you may get. - 2. you write it to attract traffic, attract advertisers and make money.

Personally, I do it for the enjoyment. If mine ever starts attracting a lot of traffic, then I would consider adding google adsense but they want to see trafic before considering you.

Hi Ianlockley, suggest you go to blog directory and take a look at the different blogs there, just to have a feel of how bloggers design their blogs, and check out the comments for the posts. Some blogs are very active with a lot of comments on any post. Some blogs hardly attract viewers.
Starting a blog is quite simple, writing posts after posts take up more effort. The most time consuming is the promotion of blog to attract traffic.
