My mom and I recently hosted a party for our friend, who's a consultany for Pampered Chef. She did a couple demos and made a dish for us to eat, and handed out catalogs and stuff. It kind of got me interested in being a consultant for something, like maybe cosmetics. Is anyone on mylot a consultant? I know you have to pay to get started and go to training meetings or something. But is it fun? Where can I get some info/job descriptions?

I was a concultant for Home and Garden Party and I loved doing it, but I never made much money at it. However, I did have a friend who made good money from it and seemed to be able to support her family of four on it. I just couldn't seem to get the shows that I needed to keep the business going. I wish you luck if you do this.

I've thought of that many many times during the years... but the biggest problem is that you have to at least start by knowing ALOT of people and beg for them to let you do a party and then be so assertive and chatty and all that those people will ask for a party and then peopel at theirs will as, and so on and so on. My problem is that they are usually so expensive, i just flat out can't afford it! I love Party Lite candles... they are the best fragrances and so many to choose from and are the only things i have ever found that actually do fragrant my house... but they are so expensive - I buy the dozen votives ($12.95) then they add a service fee and a shipping fee and this and that, but the time it is done, I was paying $16 dollars for 12 little votives. I found that the fregrance was better if I melted the candle instead of just burning it, then cut them in half to make the oils last longer,,, but still, they burn rather fast and I could go through $16 a week easy! I recently heard they just raised the cost a dollar on the votives. My daughter and DIL both joined up and tried to be consultants,,, but they quite after a few months..all their friends had parties for them, but seldom did anyone buy anything and hardly ever got a booking from within a party.. And the other thing is with home parties like that... I just hate to hand over the money and wait 3 weeks for my product!! Once I get it, I have almost for got I bought it and then think..."why'd I buy that!" My mom sold Avon for awhile...walked the streets leaving books and took them everywhere she went (and you have to pay for thoselittle books!) and literally saturated wherever she went with "I sell Avon, let me know if you need anything" and she usuallly made enough to cover the cost (you had to sell $35 per order or you had to pay a fee of something like that) and still... she made about $50-75 per campaign.. not nearly enough to even come close to covering her costs of selling it...the profit was so small. So I dont 'have much faith in this kind of "business". It is so dependant on other people that no matter how hard you work at it... doesn't really matter if the people don't want what you are selling and most of the time they don't want it simply cause it is to expensive.

One of my best friends is a Pampered Chef consultant. She really likes it and I think it does pretty well for her. It has up and down times, but I think the orders are pretty steady overall.
