if u and ur best friend fall in love with the same person

I was faced with that situation. My best friend at the time and I fell for the same guy who was a friend. My friend was upset with me because of it. I told her, I was single, she was single and so was he. He has the chance to pick who he wanted to be with. He pick my friend. It didn't worry me because I was able to be friends with the guy. It wasn't as if he was no longer in my life. He just was not as close to me as he was to my friend. But I was able to care for him as a friend. Today, I feel lucky that he didn't pick me. The end result from that relationship was the two of them breaking up. My heart was not the one that was broken.
