is the toyota fortuner really a gas guzzler?  

Now, i really know that Toyota makes the best cars ! They have an advanced technology, and they have a bad piece at 2000 produced, what others just dream about that! Even BMW or Mercedez it`s worse than toyota. They really are proffesionals! I don`t think that they have a big consum of the gas. But if that it`s a so big engine, that`s possible. But i guarantee that you`ll never regret that you`ve buyed a Toyota!

Here's a bit of info about the fortuner, well actually these are rumors. It was originally meant for the European market as a high end SUV model, directly competing with BMW X5s, Lexus RX etc. Apparently it did not pass European regulation on fuel consumption, and thus was rejected and was banned from European and even the North American market. Toyota later came up with the FJ Cruiser for the North American market, and re-classified the Fortuner and sold it on Asian, African, and South American markets. I hear it's the best seller in the Philippines.

Hi, sandragellar. First of all, let me just say that Toyota makes good cars. We have an old Corolla and is still very reliable. However, I have a friend who traded her Toyota Rav4 to a Fortuner and has regretted it for the reason that, according to her, it is a gas guzzler. I guess it really depends on what your family needs. If it's gas expenses your mother is concerned about, then a compact car may be helpful. But then again, would a compact car serve your needs? You might have a problem with space or number of passengers or you may have a lot of out-of-town trips--and in this case, a big car, like the Fortuner is appropriate. I'm sorry to say, but truly Toyota Fortuner does consume a huge amount of gas. And so are the other SUV. Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) have big engines, in the case of Toyota Fortuner, it comes in two types of engine, the 3.0 Liter Toyota D4D Diesel Engine or the 2.7 Liter VVT-i engine. If you will use the Toyota Fortuner for city driving, I must say it is very expensive considering the traffic. I wonder why your dad refuses to believe it, but I guess he knows because it is quite logical. I think he is just in denial. Or he is trying to be unreasonable because he wants the Fortuner very much (we are also sometimes guilty of behaving like that, right? whenever there is something we want very much).

Yeah...That was said...It really consumes a big amount of gas. Although it's a really cool SUV...you must have a lots of money for it...oh well..take care and let your dad think twice, before buying it.

I think you'll find any four-wheel drive car, with the bigger engine capacity uses more petrol. Perhaps, instead of shrugging it off as heresay, your Dad should investigate how many miles it does to the gallon? That would be the simplest way, surely. He could then compare it with other cars.
