How good are you at self defense? |
|
What will you do if someone attacks you? Are you confident that you can defend yourself? Do you know any techniques that will help you get out of that situation? Have you had any such experiences previously? Have you ever been in a fight? How prepared are you?
I am not really confident about myself right now. I happen to be quite fit but I don't know any martial art forms or self defence techniques other than kicking men in the wrong place if something bad happens lol. I would love to learn some kung -fu or something. What about you?

1. benny128 (1704) | 10 months ago | hey there well I have been doing lau gar kickboxing which is based more on street fighting, since I was 10, am currently quite highly graded without going into any details so I am pretty confident in handling any situation that arises.
Altho the easiest and simple way to avoid confrontation which I would always choose first, is to walk away.
Altho if someone attacks me i'd immobilise them and ring the police as am not into agression but if it comes my way yes I could and would handle myself.

benny128 (1704) | 10 months ago | defo recommend getting into some form of martial art as people think its all about kicking the**** out of people its more about self discipline etc etc
and always better to leave the situation than to fight

3. star_wish (127) | 10 months ago | That is just what i am doing now! I am not strong or tall enough, so i must have something or some special techniques to defend myself. Now i am learning chinese koofu almost everynight,Taiji,a famous martial art .I have see lots of books and video about it,and find it can strength your body fundamentally, what is more, it also is a good way for expanding life. Just keep on,and i will get it. However the most important matter to avoid fights, is not fists but words, so I will use my special techniques just at special situation.*^^*

4. modstar (4959) | 10 months ago | I was into Thai boxing years ago. It's was an amateur sport so i trained for the sport but i think i can defend myself when the situation calls for it. I know some blocks and strikes and i know how to keep him a few meters away. It's the main reason why i joined Thai boxing anyway. Before, i couldn't throw a punch but right now, i'm quite confident.

| 9. Awen_Eldorath (61) | 10 months ago | I have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and I also learned military combatives/combat hapkido while I was in the Army. I have lots of experience with submission grappeling, especially during my time in the Army, and only ever lost to one guy. I am pretty confident in my ability to defend myself, and I've been teaching self-defense to my wife and developing a martial arts curriculum based on my knowledge. I recommend martial arts training to everyone; even if you never use it for self defense, it can really help with building self-confidence and situational awareness, which in turn can help you avoid fights in the first place. Good luck and I hope you find a good school!

Anora_Eldorath (2605) | 10 months ago | I really agree with situational awareness. Most confrontations and assaults can be avoided if people took the time to be aware of where they were at and what was going on around them.
