"How I Met Your Mother just copied Friends a little too much in a recent episode  | |  Quite a few comparisons and similarites can be drawn between "How I Met Your Mother" and "Friends" but for the most part it has been different enough to be good. But they copied "Friends" just a little too much with the pact of two of them marrying each other at age 40 if they are still single then. This is totally and competely stolen from "Friends" and really was not necessary to the show. What do you think?

'Friends' wasn't the first to do it, and 'How I Met Your Mother' won't be the last. There are even books and movies that revolve around that as the main plot point. I believe it even has its own entry on tvtropes, it's that popular and widely used.

The reason it didn't bother me was that in the Friends episode, wasn't the entire episode revolving around their back-up spouses? I think almost the whole cast was in on it, if i remember correctly. On How I Met Your Mother the episode really was revolving around Lily breaking up Ted's relationships, and the whole back-up thing was just a tiny little blurb at the end.
There are quite a few similarities between the shows. I try not to get to caught up on it, and enjoy it.
