signs before getting laid off???

I recently visited a friend of mine. She got laid off from one of the popular companies in the bay area. She worked as a Human Resources Assistant.

Weeks before getting laid off, she was asked to write down in details, step by step all the everyday tasks she's doing in her department. She didn't give it a different meaning cause she was told that some other people were asked to do the same thing, so she thought that was just some sort of checking on them for evaluation purposes.

Then one day, their boss called for a meeting. And that was it, she was one of the people who were given the separation package after 3 years of working for the company.

What she can't accept was the thought of getting laid off after training this girl whom she has seniority, but the girl was not laid off, and the company's reason for laying her off was that they won't be accepting new people that she needs to train, so in short they don't need her anymore.

So all those "TASKS" that they asked her to write down made sense to her, and it will probably be given to the newer girl to use as a guide.

A month before this, I also talked to a person who experienced the same thing. She got laid off after training new people.

I'm just wondering if this is really the trend happening in laying off people nowadays.

Does any of you know people who experienced the same thing before getting laid off?
