A Day Late And A Dollar Short!!!  |

|  all my life i've always missed out on things brought on by new technology simply because of the time i was born.
when i was a kid, we had what we thought were some pretty cool toys, but they all required some type of manual manipulation and a lot of imagination.
as soon as i became too old for toys, the next generation of kids got all the REALLY cool whirling, beeping, buzzing, transforming, flashing, electronic toys!
.......but i was too old to play.........until i had kids anyways(having children is a "playing with toys loophole")
so now i'm almost 47 years old and i'm fascinated with up and coming science and technology.
i'm watching a show on The Science Channel right now and they're talking about the first manned space flight to Mars.
they plan to start the actual training aspect of the mission by sending people back to The Moon in the year 2020.
i'll be 57 by then!!!
the actual trip to Mars probably won't take place for another 10 years.
now i'm 67!!!
so while i'll at least probably get to see people land on Mars which is only ONE PLANET AWAY FROM OUR OWN, i'll probably miss out on all the cool technological things that are sure to take place after that.
heck.....with my luck, i'll probably die the day before they release the pill that makes you forever young.
do you ever think about the things you're going to miss out on because you have to DIE???

| |  Maybe in the next life we are going to be on Mars.
People born on Mars (if life is possible on Mars)will always love red planet and look at earth as boring, versus people born on Earth will always miss ocean view.
As long as I am at home (mother Earth) I may feel good.
My grand kids (if I will become grandma some day)will know holograms, liquid newspapers and virtual homes with virtual beds on virtual planets....
I miss my wooden toys made by my father...
I don't want to fly to Mars....it is one way ticket anyway...

| | round trip to Mars right now is estimated at 3 years......so it is not necessarily a one way ticket.
i sure hope i don't spill my liquid newspaper again........it's very hard to clean up all those letters.

| |  I'm sure glad I live in the times I live in, Sconi. So much has happened since I was a little kid and we had black and white telly, LP records and NO MOBILE PHONES!! I could do without the phones (hate them with a passion), but I love my comptuter and can't imagine life without it. When I think of writing short stories in bed at night with sheets of carbon paper and a portable typewriter ... yuck! I love that things can be deleted, moved or replaced so easily! My grandfather would have loved living in this age - he was ahead of his time, building a nuclear fallout shelter in his back garden and the prototype of a lead-lined suit (which would probably have poisoned people to death). If I die before they implant phones into our heads, at least I'll be happy about THAT.

| | yeah, you forgot about the year 2069 when Jupiter finally sheds it's artificially created cloud cover revealing a paradise planet inhabited by a highly advanced and sometimes mischievous race.(it was them all along focusing holographic images of UFOs at Earth)
when we, The New Martians try to contact them for helpful knowledge, and they realize our capabilities for destroying eco-systems, they immediately destroy Mars and encase Earth in Plexiglas to use as a learning tool and the flagship for their "Stay In School Kids" campaign.
