Hello msbiggs, Its nice to see you here, and your music is good. You really do need a better microphone. I suggest first you buy those chinese condenser mics they are awesome in quality sturdy and if you're lucky enough they also last long, they only reason the professionals use costly shures are because the quality is guaranteed.
But sometimes the cheapness of a mic gives that perfect moist to the voice that is need, but not always.
I remember I was running short of money, so i got a chinese condenser which is still working, it connected to my DAW via USB connection.
You don't really need any tips to get good at music production, originality is what counts, just remember music needs a bit of repetition, that's all.
You should hire a studio and rerecord you vocals then get back home in your studio, chop cut effectize, use multiple DAW's as Pro Tools, Cubase, Fruity Loops, and what ever you come across, I use every one of them, suppose cubase is best at MIDI editing, I will edit my keys in cubase and export it to Pro Tools, make sure you don't loose audio quality in the transfer, the bit rates and the interpolation should be 512, that will be slow if you're on a slow pc, but it gives the best quality.
Take time, never hurry on a beat, the more you finish it the more it appeals the listener.
