No One Could Sing "Em Like John

Boy, going through all the photos trying to find a pic of John Denver brought back A LOT of memories of the 70's and 80's (which is giving away my age, huh?). From Bruce Springstein to Rod Stewart to the Carpenters, they all had special memories for me, but none like John Denver. Don't get me wrong - my very first album was (don't you dare laugh) was "Puppy Love" by Donnie Osmond. I had such a big crush on him. I had a big poster of him above my bed and would kiss him good night before going to sleep! Yuck. Anyway - the first time I heard John Denver, I fell in love; in love with his voice, his lyrics (which were so easy to memorize and sing along with), his personality and even those big wire rimmed glasses. To this day, when I hear one of his songs (how about "Rocky Mountain High" or "Sunshine on My Shoulders" or "This Old Guitar"?), I still remember most of the lyrics and can still sing along. Of course way back then I didn't smoke and my voice was more pure and not so heavy, so I sounded better then than I do now, but John endured through many years of singing the same songs and audiences loved it and him. And who could forget his starring role in the "Oh God" movie with George Burns? They made working together look so easy. Mr. Burns looked like what I think God would look like and John looked like the person God would turn to for help. What a tragedy, it was though when we lost John at such a young age to his plane accident, but I'm sure he is at his rocky mountain high place looking down on the world below him and he is finally at peace with his world.
